Welcome to the Canadian Chapter of the Barefoot Runners Society!
Our aim is to unite all those brave enough to take off their shoes here in the Frozen North, a.k.a Canada.
This chapter has it own unique challenges; 34 million people, 10 provinces, 3 territories, 6 timezones and 2 national languages. However, I am sure that our common goal; removing our shoes and running; will overcome that. Due to these unique challenges, I am sure that at some point, some of you will be called upon to help in your little corner of the country. This is a great opportunity to get out there and spread the word on how liberating running un-shod can be.
I am sure there will be many meetings of like-minded souls in the future. Those that enjoy running with no-shoes (or very minimal ones) and partying. So welcome and please feel free to grab a seat, open a beer and have some fun!
Kate Kift (Kittyk)
Note: Kate wanted me to change this intro up and put my name on it, but I truly believe she has captured the spirit of it all, and there really is nothing to change, so I am leaving it as is with one small addition. Even though we are a large country with a relatively small population compared to other nations, we as Canadians are high-spirited folk who love to explore and experience new things. I have noticed an interesting upswing in minimalist running and to a smaller degree barefoot running in my neck of the woods. Considering when I started this journey a little over 2 years ago, I was the only one consistantly running san shoes. I see lots of potential for a new crop of 'healthy runners' to hit the streets and trails in the upcoming years. So be proud to be 'Barefoot and Canadian' and bare your soles to the world.
