Welcome to the Los Angeles Area Chapter of the Barefoot Runner's Society!
If there is a time and place you run regularly in the greater Los Angeles area, I encourage adding that to the event schedule/calendar here so others may join you (let me know if you need help).
If no one else shows up for your run/walk, no problem - you were planning to run anyway, weren't you? If no one RSVPs, you should not even feel obligated to show up yourself!
I have scheduled a regular fun run near my home in Huntington Beach, California on Saturday Mornings at 10am. I'm usually there, and often it's just me, sometimes with my dog, Psycho Herman (mostly walking, he's a teenager now).
My events are all free (so far), and informal. You should, however, feel encouraged (not obligated) to buy one of my books and get a free auto-foot-print-graph.
Mostly, at my regular runs, it's just me and occasionally one (or two) other locals. Almost as often others show up from hundreds or thousands of miles away from exotic parts of the world (Australia, Germany, Netherlands, Kansas, South America, etc.). So it's a great way to meet barefoot (or shod) runners (or walkers, etc.) when they're visiting the area.
For all it's worth, I am the acting (non-elected) President of this chapter, which, for the time-being includes all the counties adjacent to Los Angeles and a few others, including the following counties ... Inyo, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernadino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara & Tulare. If you want to be president, let's have a debate and an election. If you're at all skilled at organizing people, I'll try to help you win!
When we reach a critical mass of members, we can start electing other officers (treasurer, social networking officer, fun officer, party officer, walking officer, etc.), set membership dues (???) - which would provide dues for RRCA (Road Runners Club of America) including insurance. Beyond that, maybe we can charge for special club events, etc. to raise money.
I'll keep on posting here when/if I have time and something interesting to say. And sometimes even when I don't have anything interesting to say.
