Wet feet safe for barefoot run in triathlon?

I've run three triathlons in I've run three triathlons in VFF sprints. Because they are open on top, they are very easy to get on quickly (unlike my Bakilas which take me forever). At some point, I hope to progress in my barefooting to the point where I can just get off the bike, throw off...

    Posterior Tibial Tendonitis?

Thank you doctor.  An update. Thank you doctor. An update. There is little or no pain at all now, either when I run or walk. But there is pain if I poke it or rub with it with my finger. And that is because there is, starting this morning, a pretty big bruise above the knob and toward the...

    Posterior Tibial Tendonitis?

I have pain along the bone on the inside of my leg, from about two inches above the bony knob on the ankle to the bony knob. The pain is toward the back of leg, but definitely on the side rather than the back and definitely along the bone. It is sore to the touch. Is this likely Posterior...

For those who've run longer For those who've run longer distances: How much speed did you give up by going barefoot (as opposed to say, VFF's)?

Need to pick a Marathon goal

Hey All, Haven't posted for a while, partially because I feel guilty for having yet to run barefoot this year. It's been 100% VFF&'s (Bikilas and Sprints). Here's the deal: I signed up for my first Marathon on October 2, 2011, the Twin Cities Marathon. (A relatively large one. About 8200...

Merrell Tough Glove - my new work shoe

Got em.  Wearing brown Got em. Wearing brown leather Merrell Tough Gloves as my new work shoe. On day two. I like them. They look close enough to real shoes that I can wear them with khakis and a sportcoat (my usual "uniform"). (I'm a college professor). Not really barefoot, and they make...

Where to point the casual enquirer?

I tell people to google I tell people to google "barefoot professor" and watch the YouTube video that comes up. This is not hard to remember, and the video is that Harvard professor, Lieberman (I think is his name). It's a good six minute introduction.

Why learn good barefoot form? (serious)

Actually AdamG, I think I Actually AdamG, I think I came off pretty rude. I do think there is something in the vacuum tubes that make up these interwebs that, for me at least, cause me to be less polite, or at least look less polite, than I wish.

Merrell Tough Glove - my new work shoe

So has anyone actually So has anyone actually started wearing the Merrell Tough Gloves as their everyday work shoe? I'm happy now running barefoot or in one of my two pairs of VFF's (sprint and bikilas), but I don't like wearing clunky regular leather "business shoes" to work. I usually wear...

    Off Season and Race Plans

I ran a sprint tri in my vff I ran a sprint tri in my vff sprints. T2 was fine as the sprints have an open top and I can get them on quickly. I also have vff bikilas but they are much harder to get on. I won't use them for any tri's.

Why learn good barefoot form? (serious)

@Adam G. Umm.  I'm not sure @Adam G. Umm. I'm not sure I get your post at all. The part you quoted from me I thought made clear that I understand that barefoot means barefoot (as in not VFF's) and that I do try to run "barefoot barefoot" (as in, well, barefoot, as in, well, not wearing...

Why learn good barefoot form? (serious)

Ok.  So far, two votes for #1 Ok. So far, two votes for #1 (stomper and sloutre) and one vote for #2 (TJ). And I understand that barefoot means barefoot. I usually run in VFF's and never think about form when actually running. But I do try to run barefoot barefoot often enough to keep my...

Why learn good barefoot form? (serious)

So this is a serious question: A lot of talk on this board about using proper barefoot form (lift up feet, bend knees, don't push off...). I'm not sure I understand why. I can see learning proper form to hit a baseball or swing a golf club since neither is an inherently natural activity. But...

Securian Winter Run Half Marathon, January 29 2011, St. Paul MN

I hadn't really run since a Thanksgiving day 10K, and had never run a 1/2 marathon before, but for some reason (mostly that it was forecast to be 30 degrees F) I got it into my head to run the Securian Half Marathon in St. Paul last Saturday. Very fast conditions and/or crowd. Median pace was...

Hannah Oneda crushing it in VFF

That's great.  I bet we see That's great. I bet we see more of this. My guess is that what we'll tend to see are more winners who train barefoot but race in VFF's or other minimalist shoes. For me, (some midlife crisis guy trying to run as fast as he can before all the wheels fall off), I...

Should I race when it's this cold? Drumstick Dash. Mpls. 11/25

Thanks everyone.  Ran the Thanks everyone. Ran the 10K. It was 8 degrees F at 8 AM race time. Registration at 7:15 was brutal. Fingers and toes froze signing in. (I was wearing my Bikilas with Injini socks.) Put race number and chip on in a porta potty to get out of the wind. Then went...

Should I race when it's this cold? Drumstick Dash. Mpls. 11/25

yes, I did enjoy running at yes, I did enjoy running at 25. And I was pushing it (7:05 miles). But, actually, I think I enjoyed mostly because I was pushing it. What mostly attracts me is pushing my 47 year old body to respectable race times. I guess I'm just a bit prematurely...
