  1. Barefoot Running Anniversary Manifesto

thanks for sharing this Jen, that's a great story and gives the rest of us something to keep the motivation going. :)
  2. Sudden running time increase

I've been doing almost all of my training in my vibrams as well.....good choice!
  3. Barefoot?...BAREFOOT?

Why am I not surprised that Jen had knowledge to share on this subject ;)
  4. Sudden running time increase

That was a big thing for me to over come in all honesty. I felt like I shouldn't be breathing so heavy and it must be a sign that I'm pushing myself too hard, and that was definitely not the case. I find that for the first mile I suck wind, but then when I got into a rhythm I could start to...
  5. Sudden running time increase

I had a great experience with the C25k program...and I went from never running to starting at week 5. I wouldn't recommend that, but it ended up working for me. I think it's okay to make reasonable jumps in your running time so long as you're listening to your body. If your legs burn or ache...
  6. Tarahumara Victims of Mexico's Drug War

I agree with you here Mark, but the Mexican drug cartels are very crafty and always striving for new methods of smuggling so I'd think regardless of BTR they would have tried to exploit them at some point.
  7. Tarahumara Victims of Mexico's Drug War

This makes me sick to read; it's disgusting how anyone could exploit such peaceful people. Human beings can act in such deplorable ways....
  8. First 5k

I've been focusing a lot on getting my center of gravity in check and really trying to modify my form based on the feedback from my body. I'm really having to reconnect with myself in ways I've never thought about before.
  9. 1st half marathon

Congrats on your run!! This is my goal for the next few months so I love hearing about other people's success stories...good on ya!
  10. First 5k

That's good to know that over time the muscles will start to do naturally what they should to avoid unnecessary pain. I did a training run yesterday and made a conscious effort to keep from flexing my toes up as I had been and my feet feel SO much better. I was able to run 3.6 miles and there...
  11. First 5k

The pain is getting less and less, I tried to walk last night and that went well I even tried to jog a little and it was obviously too soon for that. I'm hoping with more icing of it and massaging it, it'll be gone soon. I didn't run my 5k to fast compared to my training times, I think it...
  12. First 5k

I noticed last Sunday that I really pull mine up while outside...just need to adapt I suppose.
  13. First 5k

I've noticed what when I run outside versus on a treadmill I pull my toes upward before landing almost every step, if that contributes to this lovely pain I'll have to focus more on not doing that. The pain has been localized to a certain spot but there is no discoloration and hardly any...
  14. Yoga

Ah that's right I thought I recalled seeing something in our ch threads. At the present time my budget wouldn't allow me to spend money on a class but perhaps soon. It's promising knowing one of our members is a yoga instructor...most be of some benefit right? lol
  15. Yoga

Hey all, has anyone personally experienced the benefits of incorporating yoga into their bfr training? I've heard a few positives and negatives about it and am curious. I've done yoga in conjunction with training that I do for surfing and have thought about looking up runners specific...
  16. First 5k

Thanks Nick...I'm going to ease up and listen to what my body is telling me and ignore my pride, not the most easy thing for guys to do right? lol
  17. First 5k

Oh I couldn't agree more! I started BF running because the aches and pains I felt running shod was unbearable and made me hate running. This TOFP is the only pain I've been feeling since I've corrected my form, before this I was starting to feel shin splints but found that I was over extending...
  18. Rest Days

It's also nice to use a "rest day" to focus on another part of your body, perhaps alternate your running with core strengthening exercises. This has been working great for me the past month as I was doing the C25K regimen. I'd follow the program and then my in between time I'd focus solely on...
  19. First 5k

I'm sure I'll make another post about more pain when I run my first "bare 5k" :)
  20. First 5k

Thanks! I'll definitely back off on the mileage for a few days just to see how the pain goes. Last night I tried to push myself a bit too hard I think and the pain was excruciating, so time to listen to my body and not be so damn stubborn.
