How long did it take you to run your first race?

I started running about 8 weeks ago I guess, and my first race, a 5K, is September 15th. I'm a big fan of slow and steady, obviously. :-D

    Animal Encounters

I can't run on Tuesday mornings because everybody has their trash out for pickup and there are skunks EVERYWHERE. You can't even run down the middle of the street 'cause you'll see them crisscrossing and waddling along.

    Let's talk food...

I don't drink pop or juice - my drug of choice is unsweetened iced tea. Too bad, as that would definitely be easy to cut out! LOL

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm absorbing all of it while researching the hell out of everything. Off sick today which helps. :-) I do well with structure. I did Weight Watchers for a while and did fantastic, until I got cocky and stopped. Then they changed the points system and I...

What do you say -- about time of day?

I love my 4:30am runs. Granted, I'm not running long distances at all, so my body is okay with rolling out of bed and stumbling right out the door. But with it being as hot as it has been, and no treadmill, I'd never get my run in if I don't do it first thing. Weekends I still go first thing...

    Week 29 of 2012

    C25K Week 6, Day 1: 5 minute warm-up walk, run 5 minutes, walk 3, run 8, walk 3, run 5, cool down walk for 5. 2.39 miles in 34.35. Average pace was a 14:29 mile. :-)

    Let's talk food...

So I'm overweight and sadly running alone so far has not taken any pounds off. Though people keep telling me I'm looking much skinner, I've lost no pounds or inches and if I'm shrinking, my pants are shrinking with me! So I'm now resigned to the fact that unfortunately I am going to have to...

    Sudden running time increase

I did my first 20 minute run this morning! Was probably about 1.2, 1.3 miles - I was crawling, LOL. But it was honestly easier than I thought it would be. Sometimes we have to have faith in our our body's capabilities.

    Week 28 of 2012

OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD! I DID IT! I ran for 20 minutes without stopping for the first time! Which also means...wait for it!...that I ran my first mile in god knows how many years! I don't think I've ever ended a run smiling as much as I was today! :-D Only 1.71 miles today due to my...

Patrick that's outstanding you did the 20 minutes! Gives me a bit of hope for my first stab at it tomorrow morning!!! It's fun having somebody else in essentially the same part of learning to run that I'm at. Did 2.03 miles this morning. Had to take 3 days off instead of 1 (just life, not...

    Week 28 of 2012

2.15 miles this morning in 31.09 for day 2 of the C25K Wk 5. Today I did my 5 minute walk to warm up, ran for 8 minutes (not as hard as I thought it would be!), walked 5, ran for 8 (breathing hard at the end but wasn't struggling) and then cooled off by walking for 5.

    Week 27 of 2012

2.13 miles in 32.57. Cooler but still freakin' humid. Started week 5 of the C25K and today was 5 minute warm up walk, run 5, walk 3, run 5, walk 3, run 5, cool down walk for 5. Less running than last week, but harder as all runs were 5 minutes and the breaks were shorter. My next run has two...

    Ridiculosity.

I won't do Huaraches as uncovered feet at a prison is not appropriate (in my opinion). Safety aside, too many pervs there with foot fetishes. For now I'm sticking with the VFF's just because they're getting everybody's panties in a twist. :D

    Ridiculosity.

Fortunately the Warden's office told me they haven't found any reason I can't wear them, so I'm good. Trust me, I'll fight it if they change their minds. My boss says his only concern is that if an inmate stomps on my foot it'll hurt, but I pointed out that unless I have steel-toed boots on...
