    3000 barefoot miles.

Impressive BG! You're not logging as many miles these days ?

    Form and PF

I'm very glad for you Nick. And yes do take care while rebuilding and healing. Don't get caught up in the speed or distance requirements.....just build up a solid base back up and then work from there. I've had a major ITBS flair up, so I've been on the shelf for a while now.....and have no...

    The "Transition": fact or fiction?

Interesting question. Presuming "transitioning" is simply going from doing one thing to doing another, then it would seem to me every time I change anything (shoes to bf, flat runs to hill runs, pavement to dirt, slow to fast) there would be a transition required. Your body does best what it...

Is your spouse embarrassed by your barefoot running in public?

My wife worries about me hurting myself, but she doesn't care in the least what anyone else thinks about it.

Running more by running less (often)

There is a fair amount of science on this topic. The difficulty is understanding exactly how much damage you've done to your body during any given workout. Any strenuous workout will cause your body to go into "build" mode to repair and strengthen the muscles and tissues you've worked/damaged...

What do we mean when we say "Listen to your body"

Indeed, it is difficult to get past ones own experiences. That said, it's not so much that I'm skptical a LTYB approach would work for some, I'm sure it would. However I think for many, it would not. I think the older we get, and the farther we get from our natural instincts of youth, the...

What do we mean when we say "Listen to your body"

This makes perfect sense to me.

What do we mean when we say "Listen to your body"

Makes sense Lee, but isn't there an underlying assumption of knowledge embedded in all of that ? How do you understand what your body is saying with little or no education on what your body SHOULD be doing ? That's the part I guess I'm getting hung up on.

What do we mean when we say "Listen to your body"

I struggle with this Jason. I understand the premise, and at some level it makes sense….but then I run it through my own experiences and use cases and can’t see where “Listen to your body” is useful primary advice. Maybe I’m too influenced by my own injury riddled past, I don’t know. The...

How would you feel if you were told there was a possibility that you could never run again?

I'd be upset no doubt, but I'd be likely to do two things within a few hours. 1. Accept the advice I was given, but leave the door open that it is entirely incorrect. I'd also know it will take some time before I will know the answer to that....so I'd move on to #2. 2. Find alternatives to...

Support for the 'just run' approach to good form

I'm not sure I took anything useful away from the article. I think non-runners, not in particularly good shape.....who then start to run, are very likely to make subtle adjustments in their stride simply because their muscles and ligaments are able to do things they could not when they started...

Where's Newton when you need him?

I'm probably just paraphrasing what has already been said, but I find if I continue to let my heel drop to the ground even on steep inclines, and then use my quads to pull my leg forward (drive knee forward) I find I have less tendency to "dig in" with my toes. It's all in the little mental...

Inadvertently Turning Folks off to BFR

I can relate. Was playing frisbee with the kids yesterday at my brothers and smoked my second toe (Morton's toe). It became quite swollen by the time we finished the game, and is a lovely purple and black today. Not sure if it is busted or not, but there's little value in getting it looked...

garmin says one thing; mapmyrun says another; who to believe???

I'd trust the Garmin more than Mapmyrun. Some routes I map in Mapmyrun are pretty close to actual.....but some are off by a several tenths. I've never had one as off as 1.5 miles though. The newer Garmin's.....when calibrated....should be within a couple of feet over that distance...

    Just Re-Starting

I like that better. Certainly more succinct. Or "Brews and Bolts 10K".....with "bolt" having the double meaing.

    Just Re-Starting

A couple of things in play here I think. I've definitely noticed a little beer relaxes me. :) The other thing is, when some of you talk about "just run", I think that's what you did when you scooted across the parking lot. No thought on running, just on getting in your vehicle asap. Maybe...

    Just Re-Starting

Kidding aside, there is some truth to that. It might be a faster way to improve your form. It's very difficult to run incorrectly on gravel. I was unable to run due to injury early in the spring, so I took up long'ish walks on sharp gravel.....eventually graduating to very slow running on...

    Relaxation and bending knees

A couple of questions/thoughts (not drinking related). 1. Knee bending means different things to different people. When some people think knee bending they think about the knee return, or picking their knees up. I think more about sinking my hips to allow my foot landing to stay under my...
