Does minimalist running work? Just ask these local athletes.

Tedlet - you are too kind. All I do is keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Sorry for the confusion Ira. I've updated my location now.

UK health website advises against walking barefoot, even indoors.

Why! I thank you - but the avatar photo is not exactly current!

UK health website advises against walking barefoot, even indoors.

With a sample of 1 I think those statements are excessively restrictive. I'm 65 and did an eight mile walk last week and was happily barefoot for 5.5 of them. For most of the year I walk barefoot about 1 mile a day with the dog and have no problems. My advice is to start slow, give it a go and...

    COVID-19 Check-In

I've begun running roads again on the weekend as the trails are too crowded. It's boring! A couple of weeks ago I did my first barefoot run for a year. 7 out of 9 total. It was refreshing a delicious. I'll stick to my Luna Pacers for the gravel trails though!

Cadence of a 'good' barefoot runner?

A lot depends on my footwear: Barefoot on road ~ 188 Luna Leadville Pacers on gravel city trail ~ 184 Luna Oso Flaco on gravel city trail ~ 180 Merrell Vapor gloves or Altra Samson on gravel city trail (winter) ~ 176 On technical trail, in any footwear, all bets are off! My pace is generally...

Mileage Reporting week 18 of 2016

Now that the new house is just about sorted I've been able to run a little more. 11.5 gentle barefoot miles on Tuesday (more than I've done barefoot in the last 3 months combined) followed by 5 in my Leadville pacers yesterday. Nothing today. I hope to do a few more Friday and Saturday.

High heart rate at 1st km of cold wheather barefoot running

Now you point it out I think I've had the same sort of issue. If I run early in the morning I've noticed a spike for the first km or so (this is also slightly uphill) and my HR reduces to normal levels once the trail levels off. If I run the same route in the afternoon, at the same pace, I do...

Mileage reporting week 12 of 2016

I had my first longer run in a long time yesterday and managed around 12.5 miles with about 1900 feet of ascent in the first half. It was a gorgeous day and the views were spectacular (and tantalising). Very little wildlife to be seen but a huge number of mountain bikers!
