    People's reactions when you run

Today I had my first reaction in a very long time. I was running with my buddy Nero and saw lots of people but only one reaction - other than "good morning" of course. "Wow - look at you - barefoot. You're good!" Made my day!

    My new running partner!

Ahh yes - herding breeds - the nipped ankles perhaps?? I wear Bermuda shorts with the requisite knee length socks, Had to retire lots of expensive socks due to two holes suddenly appearing in the ankle area!

    My new running partner!

Great stuff! Make sure you follow vets advice on running with a young dog. Their growth plates are not completely developed and too much too soon has the real possibility of damage to them. Not unlike the advice we give to all barefoot runners! Enjoy a long running career with him!

    Vibram fivefingers and foot widening

I must say I have not really noticed any widening.

    Hostility

Never had that kind of reaction. I ran into someone the other day I hadn't seen for a long time while walking my dog - and I had sneakers on - and the reaction was - "Hey dude - you forgot to not put your shoes on!" You just gotta think the dude you ran into is having a bad day/week/month. Takes...

    GTN 'does'barefoot

What I noticed is that when running shod - she tended to have a midfoot to forefoot landing. Her gait changed to a pronounced forefoot landing when unshod. I believe that if she had a long striding heel striking gait when shod - the barefoot running would have had a more positive result to her...

    Newbie needs some Help

The absolutely best advice has been given - take your time. Forget pace and just enjoy. The pace will pick up in time. Forcing a pace increase may end in injury - then that sets you back a lot.

    Any Valentines Day plans?

Karen and I went to our favourite restaurant. Our preferred quaff was a bottle of La Crema. All the ladies were given a small teddy bear when leaving. Very nice evening. Hope you enjoyed your evening. Cheers!

Made my triumphant return to Fresh Pond today

Great to hear you back running again. I ran around Fresh Pond quite a few times in the late 80's when an old school and work buddy lived in Watertown. We would drive to Fresh Pond and run with his dog. A really nice run as far as I remember it. Congrats again. Hope your young'un is doing well...

    People's reactions when you run

Had a run today with Nero along the beaches and trails. The rain was coming down hard. As we ran across a paved car park between beaches a couple of folks kitted out in full rain gear shouted to us “Good for you” and gave us a big thumbs up.Not sure if they meant the fact we were running in the...

    People's reactions when you run

I am running again! My journey over the past couple of years has been well chronicled in other threads - macerated knee cartilage, Baker’s cyst, Achilles Tendonitis etc. Today was my third run - just two miles but I was stoked! I saw a work colleague who shouted out to me “Hard core”. Another...

    People's reactions when you run

Currently on a cruise around Japan. I exercise regularly when cruising to ensure no weight gain. Went into the fitness center on the first day to scope it out. Talked to the gym instructor and mentioned I am a barefoot runner. The reaction was to try to sell me orthotic inserts (how the heck are...

First solo run in 7 years

So sorry to hear of your running buddy's passing. It is such a shame their lives are so tragically short. I have lost a couple of running buddies over the years and feel your pain. Keep running and I am sure another running buddy will find you.
