When do you stop stubbing your toes? (warning: graphic bloody toe picture)

Ouch! I know I am more likely to stub my toe when I am "zoned out" on a run because I am less focused on form, my environment, etc. One reason I like running barefoot is because there is an added mental component of paying closer attention to your environment. However if I run the same route...

Marathon: alternatives to goo and sports drinks

I like Recharge as far as "sports drinks" go. :) I'm not crazy about goos, but have used them. I definitely replinish while running even short distances such as a half marathon...if I don't, I feel depleted and don't enjoy my run as much. With experimenting you'll find the right balance for your...

Weekly Mileage 12th week of 2012

Started the week off with a 6.5 trail run in the rain...it rarely rains here so running in the rain was delightful! And I broke in my new pair of NB minimus...so far I love them! :)

    Min-shoe for Ultra Hiking

I wish we could both join, but that's tricky for us with the kids...so I have been encouraging Buzz/Abide to do it! :)

    Min-shoe for Ultra Hiking

I ordered a pair of the NB minimus from Amazon. I went up a 1/2 a size to account for swelling and they were still too small. So I returned them and went to the actual NB store to try on a pair to figure out the correct size. The sales lady thought a size 10 fit me best...I am normally a 8.5! I...

Do you go up a size?

"Minimal shoes create the need for a more alert approach to the trails that requires more avoidance of terrain than powering over and through it." Loved that! Makes complete sense. I am new to trails so at a recent race I was carefully watching the more advance runners' strategy/technique for...

Do you go up a size?

Thanks a bunch for the info. :) I went to the New Balance store the other day and tried on the Minimus 10. The lady at the store said to go with a size 10 but I thought the 9.5 fit better. I was kind of thinking the Minimus Zero might not be quite enough for the rocky trails here? They didn't...

Do you go up a size?

100% agreed! I would love to squish my toes in mud.... although I live in the desert so no mud here...IME the trails here are not too barefoot friendly... :(

Do you go up a size?

When purchasing a new running shoe do you go up a size to account for swelling? Running barefoot is just much easier because there are no sizing issues! :) However I want to incorporate more trail running and looking to purchase a good minimalist trail running shoe. Thanks! Sarah

How do YOU prepare for a race?

I just started using goos and it was much by mistake. At most races or expos you get free goos so over time I had collected a decent sized stash of freebies. One day while I was doing a long run I ran out of water and was feeling pretty depleted. I happened to have a goo in my bag that I had...

How do YOU prepare for a race?

HA! You sound like me...I never know when or where my races are! Might be a symptom of signing up for too many in my case. ;) Anyway ditto everything JosephTree said. Often a race's website will have really good info on the details of the race. Make sure you know if you need to pick up your...

What are your "four best things?".....

Wait, hold up... I didn't gain 90lbs...I gained 30lbs 3 times...there's a difference. I guess I didn't explain the part that I lost the 30lbs, but gained it again the next pregnancy. :)
