  1. IBRD '14 Date?

Glad to hear it. That is the Pittsburgh Marathon again. Last year I stacked tables full of Gatorade cups. Relegated to the sidelines but made the best of it. This year I get to run and I still have my IBFD shirt from last year. Will rock it!
  2. Mt Tammany 10... a race report... sort of...

Yikes! Sounds like pretty unforgiving terrain. So, in retrospect, what would you do differently in training to prepare for something like this? If you don't have regular access to technical trails like that, how do you train for it?
  3. Garden Spot Village Marathon, New Holland, PA

Review Type: Race Barefoot Friendliness: 1 Excellent I ran the 5th annual Garden Spot Village Marathon on Saturday 4/6/13 and it was awesome. Garden Spot Village is a retirement community in the small town of New Holland, PA. Nestled in northeastern Lancaster county, New Holland is...
  4. GIVEAWAY! Vibram FiveFingers See Ya LS - Expires Noon, EST, Wednesday, April 10

This right here. That's a nice Texas shade.
  5. Pavement vs Treadmill

As a physicist, it's all a matter of perspective. Either the ground moves beneath you and you have to run to stay in place, or the ground beneath you is fixed and you have to run to move forward. The relative motion is identical up to two differences. Outside, you have to overcome wind...
  6. Pavement vs Treadmill

Was the outside mile flat or was this your first uneven terrain in a while? I run about 30 miles/week on the treadmill during winter (Pittsburgh) and head out minshod for long runs on weekends. Haven't had any problems running on the TM, and did 8 miles barefoot outside when we had a warm day...
  7. Looking to trim up my form

If running barefoot seems initially to be a bit too much then maybe start with walking. Then mix in some really short running intervals when you get to a particularly smooth, flat stretch of sidewalk or smooth pavement. Ramp up from there. The point is that we can write entire books on how to...
  8. Face plant

That 2012 Austin Marathon shirt is one of my favorites. At least the speed bump is just AFTER the finish.
  9. Happy New Year to All!

Happy new year, y'all! Make it a great one!
  10. First Snow Run of the Season

Did 8 miles this morning in 4" of fresh and still falling snow. I wore my Merrel trail gloves. I also wore my glasses which kept the snowflakes from hitting me in the eyes, but did not really help me see better. I need some wipers.
  11. What beer are you drinking tonight? For the new forum...

East End Big Hop IPA from the east end of Pittsburgh. I've got a sixtel of it in the kegerator.
  12. What beer are you drinking tonight? For the new forum...

Green Flash West Coast IPA. One of the better IPAs ever made. Anybody ever seen a real Green Flash while out on the trail? When and where?
  13. Running Plans for 2013

I have not done it before, but I'm locked and loaded for this year. I'm originally from Lancaster so it'll be a nice homecoming race. I don't know about the actual roads along the race route but I know that most roads in the area should be fine for barefooting. Are you local?
  14. Running Plans for 2013

4/6 Gardenspot Village marathon in New Holland, PA (long run) 5/5 Pittsburgh marathon (race) 6/8 Laurel Highlands 50K - first ultra (long, long run)! Early September - Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run - 28.4 miles in Susquehanna river valley - hiked it last summer but DNS race day. 2nd...
  15. What beer are you drinking tonight? For the new forum...

I'm having a couple Full Pint Chinookies. Full Pint is a local craft brewer in North Versailles just east of Pittsburgh (since 2010). The Chinookie is a well-hopped IPA built of course around the Chinook hop. It's not a single hop - there's some Warrior, Centennial and Magnum in the mix, but a...
  16. Why do you run?

I started running because my then-girlfriend/now-wife was a runner and I wanted to be more supportive. At the time I was a pack a day smoker and wouldn't run 100 feet to catch a bus. We ran some local 10Ks and I got hooked on the race-day atmosphere and the feeling of crossing a finish line. I...
  17. Toe spread - photo comparison

That is a cool photo. The change in musculature is awesome to see.
  18. *IMPORTANT* IBRD 2013 POLL - NEED YOUR VOTES

I voted for Cinco because I'll be running the Pittsburgh marathon that morning and I'm targeting it as my first barefoot marathon. Will there be IBRD technical t-shirts for sale? I'm going to need a large please.
