TOF Cover (for cold windy days)

Thanks for all the replies. Tristan, I'll have to look into the bare-bottom shoes solution. Lorri, I hear you. It is true that your core temperature determines whether your extremities are getting cold. But I found, as Tristan points out, that layering up the core causes overheating while the...

TOF Cover (for cold windy days)

Hi Fellow Barefoot Runners, I haven't been in here for a long time. We are experiencing another mild winter here on the east coast of USA. Hoping to be able to get a few barefoot runs in when it's not too cold. There are certain times the ground isn't too cold to run but the wind lowers the...

    Thank you!

Hahaha! Thanks. I'm by the shore. The marathon was in NY. It was pretty humid but what bothered me most was the chip and seal road and the sheer amount of debris. I had blisters on the balls of my feet and had to take a couple of days off running afterwards.

    Thank you!

Started running barefoot at 40. That was over 4 years ago! I attribute much of my success to all the advise, support and positive criticism I've received on this forum. Two weeks ago I ran my third marathon and narrowly missed BQ at 3:16:17. Yesterday I broke 19 on a 5k (18:53). So, thank you!

Thanks Sid. That exercise is proving to be an absolute killer.

    Problem in Paradise

I'm not sure how mid-foot strike translates to barefoot running. Is it characterized by the fact that you bring your heel down after the initial forefoot contact with the ground?

Wow! That's a lot of information. Thanks.

    Problem in Paradise

Well, I've been away from this place for way too long. I had a good year last year. In spite of all the DNFs I accomplished a lot. First (and second) ultra, first time associating with the local "fast runners" group, first (official) marathon and in spite of all my bitching about not qualifying...

    Another race, another disappointment...

Thanks. But seriously, if BQ is a way to separate the boys from the men when it comes to running (I'm not saying that it is, just "if" it is), then I'm still in puberty :)

How are you? Good to chat with you again. I didn't know I was this fast until earlier this year. I had a chance to run a huge 5-miler here at the Jersey shore (disclaimer: I have no snooki connections). So I'm standing at the starting line and this guy comes up and says something along the line...

Thanks. This is what I'm thinking also but the purist in me is objecting. I'm sure it can be done barefoot. I'll just have to grow up.

Dama, I'll certainly keep your spirit close to my heart... ear, rather, but not too close :)

Thanks. That's a nice way to look at it. I'll have to remember that next time.

    Another race, another disappointment...

Thanks. I've run the distance before so I had that confidence going in. Which is helpful. Regardless, 26.2 is still a long way for your feet to endure. If after 20 miles every pebble doesn't feel like pieces of burning lava under your feet you're either Superman or your nerve ends have died :)...

    Another race, another disappointment...

Dama, I'll certainly try listening to my body better next time. But then again it's my body. The first half of the race it appeared to be ecstatic going as fast as it could go. Then it started throwing a hissy fit about feet hurting and legs cramping and all that bull. I need some Dama spirit to...

    Another race, another disappointment...

Dama, I was expecting you to say that :) I've been training hard. I guess I should have trained smart... and raced smart... I guess some dogs just can't help but chase cars. How are things with you? Halfhazard, I've run longer distances in the past (longest run was probably 36 miles). But this...
