  1. Flexor hallucis longis tendonitis pain

I sometimes get some pain before I am warmed up in the inside of my foot just behind my big toe joint. After a little research I think it is Flexor Hallucis Tendonitis (but mild). Any suggestions on how to get rid of this?
  2. Increasing mileage

I have been barefoot running since 1st April 2017, so nearly 14 months into it. Before that a short time in Vibrams and before that a long time in very maximalist trainers. I have made steady progress. It took a few months to be able to run more than 3 or 4 miles but I got there. By the end of...
  3. Running on gravel barefoot - "Romancing the stones" - as Ken Bob suggests

Ken Bob Saxton (Barefoot Ken Bob) writes: (page 114 of Barefoot Running Step by Step) emphasis added: 'DRILL 5: ROMANCING THE STONES ...Many "experts" (who are not names Ken Bob) routinely advise new barefooters to head for "barefoot-friendly" terrain like grass or sand .... Unfortunately these...
  4. Xero DIY Sandals

Hi Rick, what is the added hardware which you are referring to?
  5. Xero DIY Sandals

Possibly, although as I have already bought the kit I am keen to try and get it working.
  6. Xero DIY Sandals

I have recently bought the Xero DIY sandal kit. Does anyone else wear these for walking or running? I don't intend to ever run in these (other than if I have to run for the bus) just walk in them. I find them a bit loose when tied on, with my foot easily slipping backwards and forwards or off...
  7. 'Watch for dog poo and pebbles', advises barefoot Leicester marathon runner

Someone I know, experienced shoe-wearing runner, stepped in a large piece of glass which meant a trip to A&E, which fortunately happened to be nearby. I think if he was a barefoot runner he would be used to keeping a look out for dangerous objects (and dog poo) and probably not stepped in it in...
  8. Signed up to do my first 5K... barefoot

In my view they should also worry about "liability issues" if you were to run in shoes, as 65-80% of runner get injured each year, and possibly many of these injuries are down to shoes. If I run very far in Vibram Five Fingers I get sore big-toes. So I my gym forces me to wear shoes (rather...
  9. Barefoot Running on gravel and fast

After just under 6 months barefoot running I have ran a half marathon barefoot. Boom! One thing which slowed me down in the half marathon was when the ground felt rough. The experts recommend practicing running on gravel. I want to do this. At the moment I can walk on a gravelly, stony path...
  10. Ready yet to run a half-marathon barefoot?

Dear all, Thanks for all your replies. I did it on Sunday. Nottingham Half Marathon barefoot. I took socks just in case but didn't need them. I lasted the whole 13.1 without any cuts or blisters.
  11. Ready yet to run a half-marathon barefoot?

I am a relatively new barefoot runner, starting 1st April. Before than I run in Vibram Fivefingers. (Before that I ran in shoes and got injured). Am I ready to run the Nottingham (UK) Half Marathon on Sunday 24th September? This half-marathon is all on road, although there may be a second, a...
  12. How long does it take for your skin to harden up?

Update: I thought I would share an update as to how I have been progressing. Early April my maximum barefoot was 2 miles. Now my maximum is 6.5 miles and running 20 miles per week. I haven't ran in VFF for several weeks and get very few cuts. As well as gradually increasing the mileage, I am...
  13. Barefoot running technique / being gentle on the skin

I ran 4 miles barefoot on Friday no problem. On Sunday I ran slightly further along the same route but got 2 cuts in the usual places (top of the balls of the feet, towards the toes, in the middle), the reason being, I am sure, is that I went for a barefoot walk to the gym on Saturday (1.5...
  14. VFF wearer, Rocky Trails, Tired feet

If your hypothesis is correct: here's what I would do: don't run on the trails for now. Work on the 'required muscular activation' then when you have sorted this, gradually return to the trails.
  15. People's reactions when you run

New one tonight. A car stopped behind me then drove past me very very slowly. The front passenger was videoing me on her phone! Brazen, window down, grining!
  16. People's reactions when you run

Most gyms have a rule like that, probably because they are worried you will drop a weight on your foot. That's daft because you wouldn't be carrying a weight on the treadmill. Also, with ordinary trainers you would still probably break a bone if you dropped a weight.
  17. VFF wearer, Rocky Trails, Tired feet

Do you think this soreness is bruising or an ache from bashing your feet hard against rock? If so, here is my advice: You have to remember the difference between running in VVF and barefoot. With VVF it feels soft on your feet, so it's tempting to hit the ground hard with each step. Running...
  18. People's reactions when you run

Sorry, let me rephrase: does any shod person ever forget their shoes? I'm sure not.
  19. People's reactions when you run

Most frequent reaction is: 'where are your shoes?' 'followed by 'have you forgotten your shoes?' Seriously? I sometimes forget my lunch or even on rare occasions my wallet, but does anyone forget their shoes?
  20. VFF wearer, Rocky Trails, Tired feet

Could you be very specific about where your feet feel sore.
