  1. how to start

This is really good info...perhaps it should be added to that old 'how to start' doc from the other forum?
  2. how to start

not to thread hijack, but what sort of temps have you been able to BF walk in? it's currently around 0 degrees C here atm (sorry, don't know what that is in F) - I'm thinking it might be painfully cold after a 25 min BF walk.
  3. how to start

I've done this myself a couple of times - starting up, getting injured, laying off, starting again. I've found that my achillies tendons were just too short! so, cue nearly 12 months of yoga! It's really helped stretch out my hamstrings, calves, and tendons. Running is always going to shorten...
  4. Fivefingers classified as shoes?

this is one of those un-winnable arguments imho. terra plana do some good "work look" minimalist shoes (3mm sole), the dharma is popular I believe, and there's an ankle-boot one as well but I can't remember what that one is called. They do look a bit like "special" shoes, as the toes box is...

  7. Barefoot Hiker - Snowdon - 3rd Jan

Hi Chris, We went up Pyg and down Miners - we met this chap toward the end of the "shared" section, so he could have come up either Pyg or Miners track. There was a little snow left on the top, but it had been very wet for a few days previously, and temps at the top were just about above...
  8. Barefoot Hiker - Snowdon - 3rd Jan

Hi All, Whilst walking back down Snowdon (Wales, UK), I passed a chap carrying some rubber crocs, walking barefoot up the mountain! It was might chilly that day, and very wet - his feet must have been seriously tough to cope with all of that welsh slate! Was it anyone from this forum? It...

That sounds sensible... I'm pretty sure that in the past I've not anywhere to close to trying to acclimatise my feet to the cold - Thanks!

  11. what I've been doing instead of running...

so, harking back to an old thread: http://www.thebarefootrunners.org/threads/getting-frustrated-injury-related.7301/#post-76905 This shows that I've not been running (at all) since the first week of august this year! :( I've been trying to keep my fitness up using the bike at the gym, and...

  13. Paleo - 2nd thoughts

This has been an awesome slow burn thread, so thanks all for that... Being avid small-holders, I don't think I could ever go totally veggie, but I have been cutting meat down to weekends only. I think that's going to work for me, along with just keeping an eye on my cals with 'myfitnesspal'...

  17. Paleo - 2nd thoughts

lol - no we're all aware of the phrase hillbilly over here ever since that awful beverly hillbillys program.... I got talking with a fordy who lived just outside detroit back in 2010... he said that him and his mates were hill jacks.... it's supposedly hillbillys with brains, or something like that?
  18. Paleo - 2nd thoughts

Well, hunting is not big at all really - I consider myself on the fringe of the community that does hunt... the only big game which we have are deer. you need a decent rifle to shoot them - .243 or above. It's pretty hard to get a licence for a rifle like that over here - you have to have...
  19. Paleo - 2nd thoughts

Well, serious thanks to those of you who took time out of your day to reply to this post, and to pm me with advice. I hope you don't think I've ignored your advice completely when I make the following statement: Paleo is not for me.... I cut out sugar last week, including fruit. It did help...
  20. getting frustrated - injury related...

Okay... it's been a week now.... I went to the gym last night for a little non-running session. 20 mins on the bike, and then 20 mins of uphill walking on the treadmill (wearing foot coffins). My foot started hurting again soon afterward - just at that one little point that I mentioned before...
