We had a small group of 9 (or so) for the IBRD in Washington, DC, this year. We attended a clinic with a Vibram fivefingers rep at Hudson Trail Outfitters, and then ran around the neighborhood a bit. As our organizer NYAB, said "We had some great dialogue about barefoot/minimalist running and...
Yeah, I'm so tired of that conversation I didn't even feel like typing about it before.
So many conversations like that. Others have written about those on this board earlier.
I had someone come up to talk to me, look down at her VFFs, and say "I've been running barefoot for 6 months."...
saypay I registered for DC - tried to submit a comment on your site but I don't see it there - did I do something wrong or are the comments being held in cyberspace?
The other thing that I didn't see anyone mention - because VFFs limit your perception of the ground, they in the way of easy natural running form, and there is some evidence that there are more injuries with VFFs than regular shoes - because people more easily use poor form without realizing it...

Barefoot Gentile (and
Barefoot Gentile (and everyone else) - come for the whole weekend next year! Not just Sunday! Everything from the friday night drinks to saturday clinics and evening talks, to the run and paleo snacks... it was all really good.
I think this needs to be
I think this needs to be studied. It seems to me that my pads are getting thicker since starting to run barefoot, and I have heard this from others.
And it is a known phenomenon that is studied and measured in horses. They develop a thicker sole during their...

I dunno TJ! Now that this conversation is going sideways... I tend to think going down the path of certifying is a slippery slope!
Just because someone can repeat a curriculum does not mean that they have anywhere near the understanding of the person who created...
I agree. You need to find
I agree. You need to find another fun hobby. Though I find that almost all other hobbies are more equipment-intensive and time-intensive. Like one of mine, horseback riding.
Oh, another possibly simpler one that I discovered lately - barefoot trail hiking...

In my constant quest for
In my constant quest for wearable shoes that look decent, for everyday wear, I bought some fancy flip-flops today... nearly flat, no toe spring, actually wide enough for my toes, which most shoes aren't these days...
Another vote for the
Another vote for the Invisible Shoes kit, very easy to do. I started with that and use those for running sometimes (more totally barefoot now)
I invented another design for everyday wear, to avoid the string between the toes. I tried to post a picture but it doesn't show...
IBRD at the Washington Monument in DC was great!
NYAB made a special event of it with a registration table and a banner, and he even got someone from the press. We had almost thirty people there, and made a few loops around the Monument.
He took some great photos too.
