A return from the grave, thank you Correct Toes

Hello, all. It has been far too long since following and posting on this forum. I guess I sort of lost my way after breaking my foot last fall followed by not running much during the winter. It's kind of funny, once I started running again this last spring spring I felt like things were only...

Vibram is profiting from BRS's good name!

They're only profiting if they are making more from the ad than they spent to post it. In business terms, it is a logical move of their part, though.

    Leg alignment and Barefootedness

I'm no expert, but you look for the straightness of the toes, the correct amount of pronation vs supination (inward roll of the ankle and foot vs outward roll), do the knees roll in or out, any bow leggedness, etc. Both you guys look pretty darn good! Just going barefoot does a lot of the...

    Leg alignment and Barefootedness

I'm facebook friends with Dr James Stoxen, one of the docs who are members and who participate in the "ask the docs" forum. He posted a photo of his lower legs and a 27 y/o patient's lower legs. Even in narrow toe boxed dress shoes his leg alignment was far better, but not perfect -- but hey...

    Ankle tendon pains, solved, possibly

In conjunction to working with a chiropractor maybe try working your core, especially the backside of your core. I like donkey kicks and bridges for this. Learning to move from your core correctly will go far in protecting your spine and the nerves that come off of it.

Breathe Slower Yet Run Faster? really...

Personally, I think it is easier to stay relaxed while breathing through the nose, assuming the nose isn't stuffed up. It seems easier to unconsciously engage the accessory chest wall muscles while mouth breathing which will cause fatigue more quickly. All he is saying is to stay relaxed by...

Nice macro work bf. We just got a new German Shepherd puppy, so I think I know what is going to consume most of my lens time . . .

Can managing a broken metatarsal barefoot optimize healing and recovery? Also, an adaptive fracture

I fractured (hairline) my 2nd metatarsal just distal to the proximal head of the second mettie in my left foot this last Sept 26th. 95% of my recovery I stayed barefoot or wore minimalist shoes. I worked hard to keep the rest of my foot strong and limber and bore weight as much as I could...

What Makes Kenya's Marathon Runners The World's Best?

I work with 3 Kenyans. 1 male doctor and 2 female nurses. All have lived here for a decade or less but are very westernized. They eat our food and wear our shoes. They are all of average height to slightly tall and of average build. I think all 3 came from Narobi. Of the 3 only the male...

Situations when you chose barefoot over shoes?

To me, a better question is when are shoes preferred over going barefoot? Those situations arise and make me sad.

Understanding the delicacies of light and how the camera registers that light is a lot like understanding the delicacies of running barefooted and understanding the ground beneath you.

    Walking Gait Un-natural

Also, just curious, what part of you ankle hurts? The front, next to the top of the foot, the rear where your achilles is, or on one of the sides? That can help to figure out the issue and to better rehab the specific site better.

    Walking Gait Un-natural

I heel strike while walking but the bottom of my foot is nearly parallel to the ground as it hits the ground, so my mid and forefoot only have an inch or less to drop in order for them to strike the ground. I do not strike the ground with the back of my heel and roll my foot forward (as you...

know of a barefoot runner with spondylolisthesis (vertebra slip)?

I've been a nurse for 14 years and have a decent background in neuro. Aching pains in your back is just muscular (a good thing). Nerve pain is sharp and stabbing or can feel like a strange blend of numbness and burning or can feel kind of like how it feels when your leg or arm falls asleep. I...

know of a barefoot runner with spondylolisthesis (vertebra slip)?

I don't suffer from it but I've taken care of several patients post operatively who had it bad enough to require surgery. A reasonable and realistic goal would be to slow the progression of the slippage for a long as humanly possible, or to stop its progression all together. I would put a hefty...

A real passion of mine is film photography. About 5 years ago I built a large darkroom in my basement and every fall/winter I get the time to get out and do some shooting and printing. I'm excited about things this year because of this revelation with being barefoot. I'm 99% sure...

    Quinoa ?

The benefits of foods and our self interpretation of those benefits is an interesting and hard topic to deal with. Here are some of my thoughts. Some foods have substances that truly make you feel better. Chocolate and caffeine, for example. Those effects are mostly short lived because your...
