do you consider boys going barefoot more uglier than girls going barefoot?

I have no opinion opinion with respect to children in this regard. Nor do I believe society more accepting for either gender's barefootedness for them. But for adults, my perception is that barefoot edness is less tolerated in men.

    People's reactions when you run

Before running Kansas City's Plaza 10K on Sunday, I met a woman so impressed that I was running it barefoot, that she asked to photograph my feet.

Racing photos of the Marburg barefooters

I especially enjoyed the ones through the middle of the town. It always strikes me as ironic to see barefoot runners wearing running bibs displaying shoe manufacturing race sponsors.

GIVEAWAY-Xero Shoes New Sensori Venture! September Giveaway Expires Friday, September 12, Noon EST

Here's my one and only post. I have run only barefoot since some time in May this year. But I think I might like to try these given a chance for rough off-road conditions.

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

I was reading some of your other recent posts. As you stated, there is lots of good info on the internet. With regard to hot asphalt, I'm sure you'll find a few answers. A common one: If there are paint lines on the asphalt, then try to run on the lines. This is also good training for your...

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

I've read only two and it is hard to choose between them. Ken Bob's and Jason Robillard's first. Forced to pick one, I guess Jason's. I'm going to buy his ultra book soon, but I don't know if I'll try further than 26.2 or not.

My plan for my first races (10k & half marathon)

I think one great thing about running for recreation is that the details of training become less important. Even if you don't taper enough, because you are having too much fun on pre-race runs, then so what: You might have to take it a bit easier on the races.

    Mental imagery

It is probably different depending on how much one cares about the finishing time. I think I alternate between being zoned into nature, and then total into myself and the rhythm of my movement. I probably am more auditory than visual.

A thorough and thoughtful critique of BFR

Perhaps the paradigm: "If it ain't broke don't fix it" has its place. But as the article Sid posted shows.., for a lot of runners, "it is broke".

A thorough and thoughtful critique of BFR

Good point about it being merely a blog. I certainly don't hold myself to journalistic standards here in the forum. On the other hand I'm not a journalist. If I were, I think I would try to hold a little higher standards for my blog posts.

A thorough and thoughtful critique of BFR

Well I did agree with this Marc Lindsay on one thing (possibly the only thing): True that any individual that just tosses their shoes, or picks up a pair of minimalist shoes, and expects to run faster and injury free with no further ado, IS ignorant or misguided. As far as journalistic...

    Wildlife encounters, reprised

Deer, I know are common, but nevertheless very furtive. A week ago on my morning trail run in a park near my home I saw a doe on the right edge of the roughly 10 foot wide trail I was on. Although she did not appear startled by my approach, when I held my pace and continued within 10 feet...

Finally went into a store barefoot!

I'm interested to know if anyone thinks there may be a gender bias in accepting barefootedness. Of course it depends on the environment, but people are accustomed to seeing a woman remove her heels for comfort.

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

I'd like to group run more often, but almost all of my running is solo. A couple of years ago, at least the 5K's and 10K's I'd sign up for gave me some company when running. But the sign up's haven't been in my budget recently. End result has been run solo or not at all.

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

I'll put in a plug for Endomondo. Even after getting my Garmin I used Endomondo's training plan.

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

Thank you. I did put a lot of dedication into my training. So in many ways it was just business as usual.

First Marathon - Barefoot or Otherwise

Thanks Macdiver. It was a solo marathon tracked on my Garmin. That's what I meant by just training and no medal.

    Books to read

Ken Bob Saxton: Barefoot Running Step by Step Jason Robillard: The Barefoot Running Book Both already mentioned, but just to put in my two cents, awesome books. I haven't read the others. But one important principle that both agree upon is listening to your body. Personally, I rate this...

    Rubberized Track vs. Asphalt/Concrete

I hadn't thought about the effort level, but I have avoided running on rubberized track, because I find they generate much more friction against your feet.

Robin Williams Had Deep Running Roots

Depression has robbed this world of a lot of people. I don't normally have a runner's high, but... I can leave feeling down and find that my run has driven the blues away. So I guess you could call running my antidepressant.
