Chemicals and Rock Salt Damage Feet?

Salt will not "eat your feet". Do we dissolve in the ocean? I doubt if any of the other junk they put on roads will either. I loath salt on the roads. It hurts. And it melts the snow, turning it into cold slush and water, so I can't run in my socks...

It’s Not Natural, and Definitely Not Normal, to Die From Cardiac Arrest: The Death of Caballo Blanco

"It seems to me that Micah wouldn't care..." That sounds pretty radical, but I agree with you, Robin. Analyzing this to death is not for me. You do what you think is reasonable to stay healthy, and then forget about it. The end will come when it comes. Could Micah True have been doing...

How was your barefoot running this Winter?

Interesting report. I live in a cold part of the country. The key for me is running at mid-day. Even during our coldest spells, it is usually up to near 20 (and often much warmer) at 1 PM. If the sun is out, the pavement warms up. So it isn't nearly as cold as people think.

    Foot Care

Over this winter I got a few remarks on the great condition of my feet, despite never wearing shoes. My usual response is that it is because I never wear shoes. But the truth is a little more complicated. I give my feet a nice hand balm treatment at least once a day. Not with ordinary hand...

    Game Changer

Things are not always what we wish they were. This latest experience is not something I want to talk about, but all you fellow bare footers probably ought to hear about it. Hopefully you can learn from my mistake. A couple of weeks ago I got a puncture wound from something sharp. I never knew...

small puncture, and it hurts to step on

Four days ago I was walking down my gravel road, barefoot. I felt a jab on the outside edge of the ball of my foot. I didn't think much of it, as there are lots of sharp rocks. But after ten steps or so I realized this hurt more than normal, so I stopped to look. There was some blood and a...

    A Clean Run

It was raining yesterday, as it has been for several days. And I didn't run at work. So when I got home I took off up into the woods, barefooted. And in fact, nearly bare-everythinged, despite the cool air (55) and cooler rain drops. I have been into this idea that the body adjusts to the cold...

Comment by 'jogoflap' in 'My New Project'

It is especially interesting what you say about getting used to how it is "suupposed" to feel. Yesterday I was walking along the gravel with my 11 year old. Both of us were barefoot - me wincing and him not noticing his feet at all. I asked him, "does that hurt your feet at all"? "No", he said...

    My New Project

I have a new goal, and I think it is attainable. Once I thought bare foot running would never be possible for me. More recently I have thought bare foot running on difficult surfaces (gravelly New Hampshire trails, for instance) would not be possible. But after some encouraging words from...

My First BF Race - A Doozy

After being at this barefoot thing for almost a year now, I was itching to do a race of some sort. I settled on the Mt. Ascutney Hill Climb, for a few reasons: All PavementThe hill climb would be slow and so not overly tough on my feetClose to home I was pretty nervous about it, though. I'd...

Comment by 'jogoflap' in 'The Loss of Fear'

This winter, which is winding down more slowly than I'd like, I took a trip to Florida, where I got that alligator picture. No real connection. I guess I wish I was there. Thanks for the comment.

    The Loss of Fear

The last couple of days have seen good runs. But I want to dwell a little more on Tuesday's experience. That day I was recovering from a couple of tough runs, and was looking for something a little easier, and soft on the feet. Usually a path in the woods works in that situation. But things had...

I know I never felt this way when I was running in shoes. I never had this kind of passion for it. It's a funny thing.
