When to start wearing VFF's?

Avoid putting on footwear

Avoid putting on footwear until you actually need them and only AFTER you have learned to run with a more healthy, natural form (for you).

no there is not.  if you

no there is not. if you meant when you should put shoes on while out on a run then put them on when your feet feel like they are getting hot spots, or the start of blisters. if you mean just in general then you cannot go wrong with slowly working your way up completely barefoot and then using shoes when you want/need them.

love the name by the way.

Thanks ;)

I have just started to run barefoot, using the VFF's would be new for me also. I was just wondering when I should actually transition into them? I wasn't sure if there was some sort of timeline. I will use them to run in the early morning since I go out before daylight.

The usual consensus is to

The usual consensus is to wear minimalist footwear only after you have a very firm grip on proper barefoot technique. Also, when/if you decided to wear minimalist shoes occasionally run barefoot as to reinforce proper technique and get rid of any bad habits you may have picked up while running in minimal.

 i get where you're coming

i get where you're coming from kean and i agree but it's not really barefoot technique. it's just running without a heel strike or running with a fore/mid foot strike which can be done in any kind of shoe. i completely agree that going completely bare is a great teaching tool though.

i still say a person should use minimalist shoes as they please. some minimal shoes i have used or tried have changed the way i run and some have not so it all depends on the runner in my opinion. i know people who run full time in minimal shoes and never go bare. they do just fine and then i know people who tried that and were only able to learn how to use a good form by getting some barefoot time in. we're all completely unique so i say if you want to work the minimal shoes in then do it and do it as you see fit or feel like and your transition will fall into place.

  Going completely barefoot

Going completely barefoot helped me alot, I also go barefoot everywhere when I am not running, helps build up my soles quicker. I did the VFF's in winter when I only had very few runs in barefoot. My right ankle started hurting me, I think it was mainly a form issue. So, I just went all bf and have only used the VFF's a few times. I actually love barefoot alot better, you can't hide form issues with going bare. I do plan on using VFF's on some gravel runs when I get another pair back from Vibrams, from where they split down the side.I can't wait ;)

I'm new too, and

I'm new too, and still totally barefoot for runs. But I did make a pair of huaraches and am wearing them out and about quite a bit. I admire nature runner for going completely BF but I still want to wear shoes if I go to the store or wherever. So you might break in your VFFs around town when you're not running.
