I had a little milestone today for the toughest barefoot run I've completed...its kind of a break through for me. There is a technical 6 mile wooded trail right behind my house, nice nice hilly trail but rough...too rough for barefooting or so I always thought. I've tried to run it a few times barefoot and always a FAIL and had to walk most of it.

Today I finally conquered it barefoot in a very slow time but I did it, average pace was like 13 min/mile...it was hi 80's with hi humidity too. I planned on just walking it but once I started the idea popped into my head to test myself on this since I hadn't tried to run it barefoot since last summer. Sure enough it wasn't nearly as hard as I remember, I've made some good barefoot trail progress since then. This is one of the harder trails I know of except in the Georgia mountains so I think I'm ready to hit the mountains later this summer.

Cool it is good to hear that

Cool it is good to hear that you can progress even on difficult ones.

I tend to have more trouble going uphill than down on rocky trails do you find the same thing? Well other than up is just inherently more difficult than down. It seems like I push off more and my feet can't handle much of it.

Whoa. I'm so happy for you, and so jealous. In a good way!

And that is way more than a little milestone. I would love to get to the point where I can run my favorite trails bare. I can walk most parts, but certainly can't run yet.

Excellent work, moka. And the rest of you, too!

Great job man, that motivates

Great job man, that motivates me to do the one in the park next to where I live, only 2.5 miles but rough. The only problems is copperheads are very populated in those woods?

Barefoot down copperhead

Barefoot down copperhead road? Hmmmmm...

I see at least one huge blacksnake on every run, but no copperheads yet. And hopefully never!

They were building a bridge across the creek, and dug into a nest of them on the rocky creek bank, stirred them all up, now they are everywhere. I was walking a few weeks back on the gravel trail bf to try and get my feet use to it, and saw three within 100 yrds of each other, one was right beside my barefeet about 4 feet away, it coiled up and I thought it would strike. I kept walking and it slithered away. Scared the crap out of me! I was like shew! lol.

Yeah, WendyBird, that discussion sounds familiar to me, too, but I can't remember where it was. Hey, at least with a cobra, shoes won't save you!

And I love the green tree snakes. They're so pretty, and have such expressive little faces.

Way to go Moka! I had a similar, but not nearly as successful experience yesterday running a hardpacked and stony forest track. I had to walk a lot of it, but, like you said, it wasn't nearly as rough as it seemed last time I tried, so... getting there.

I ran part of same course again today about the same pace too. This is going my new slow barefoot trail for sure.

I see snakes around only when I'm bike riding for some reason never when I'm running. I stop and let them cross the road usually, wouldn't want to run over one.

Abide - The steeper downhills with rocks do bother my feet for sure trying to slow down is rough, I never notice the up hill parts too much. I think you have rockier terrain than we have here though.

We will run it sometime, the county bought the land and call it Palm Creek park now but its undeveloped so far and is mostly overgrown jeep trails with single track mixed in. I almost never ever see another person there. Check out Little Mulberry park too.
