I have to say I wasn't really sure what to expect but went in with a good attitude and ended up loving it.

It was a 5k along Clearwater Beach, FL. It was nice and cool with the sea breeze and the beautiful sunset. I didn't get tired like I thought I would just because I was really distracted by everyone else running around and looking out at the sea.

I have to admit it was funny seeing so many shod runners running on sand and freaking out when they got to puddles left behind from high tide while I just run through them and make extra splashes for fun.

Really was a fun time and I feel I did well for my first race with a 32:11 not fast but I was aiming for quicker than 35, so I was definitely happy with that. All I know is now I'm hooked...can't wait for my next race!

Awesome, Josh! You've come so far. I think that's a good first 5K time too. Now you have something to build on. Oh, and I LOVE the splashing too. Gets their attention.

good job. was this on or did it pass through the beach? a little more details please. we like race reports here.

Right along the shore in the compacted sand...out and back course. It was low tide...smell was kind of bad near the start but close to the turn around I smelled BBQ from one of the beach houses...what I would of done for some BBQ and beer after that race but I stuck around for a little while then went rock climbing with my friends. Beer was after that haha

Also I could of probably hit under 30 mins but was waiting for the 2.5 mile mark...seems like I had missed the sign so I picked up the pace a little late. Definitely aiming for under 30 though in the next part of the series.

Good work for the first one! I would think time shouldn't be a worry for the first 5k---just experience and have fun, especially on the beach!
Isn't it fun to run on sand n splash puddles while shod people fuss over their shoes? You get to be the happy go lucky kid. Thanks for representing bfers.

Thanks! I wasn't putting a focus on the time I was just really enjoying everything. I just like to set goals though. But I love puddles...I must look genuinely crazy to others when I go through them because I can tell I get a crazy grin on my face haha

Doing another beach run the 17th...can't wait!
