Hi there

I been into running in minimalist shoes since the spring of 2011. I began running in merrell trail glove. I did that as well as training in ordinary running shoes and quickly switched to saucony kinvara as my most "cushioned shoe" Those where the shoes i used in my first marathon in November last year on gravel forest roads- I had to do it the year i turned 40 ;) - and the focus was to have i nice day, which I did in a nice and comfortable 4 hours 10 min.

After that i more or less switched to minimalist shoes completly while running between 120 and 140 km a month ( in merrell trial glove, VVB neo or neo trail) In Feb. I ran my first ½ marathon inVVB neo trail shoes. No tarmac on the route but trails with gravel, some sand and on the beach - in subzero conditions. It was a social event, so the speed was according to that.

since the beginning of 2012 i have had some top of foot pain, but strangely it has been while NOT running. I wear boots at work and have gone one full size op to see if that was the reason to the problem and tried to lace them different. It helped a little but did not solve the problem. Neither did 2 weeks without running. So i have continued to run less than 10 km since the pain afterwards is worse after long slow runs ? ! and a lot of intervals or tempo runs.

Now I have turned to my doctor, but minimalist running is not very common over here
and the first thing he sad was: You pronate, so you have to have orthotics  he agreed to have my foot X rayed- it did not show anything broken - so tomorrow I am going to have it MR scanned.

Is there anybody out there, who have any sugestions to what the problem can be ?

I had my foot scanned and the doctor told my I had some stress in the bone marrow, so i should get orthotics and descent shoes  I think I just continue as usual since it should not give greater risk of breaking anything.

Good luck, Kim. Dr. Andrew should be responding to your post today.

Hmm - that the only thing which is close to impossible as long as i can run without trouble - maybe stop walking is the solution ... but thanks for the advice.

Now I try a third pair of boots at work as well as running more barefoot after the "normal"training to align posture and so on. Besides that I will work on stretching the foot (the Dorsiflexion of Ankle and big toe is the areas to work on compared to his article.)

If that do not work out ... Well, hopefully it will :)
