Greetings from Lübeck, Germany

Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting me in - I'm just starting with barefoot running and am grateful that this community exists.

Bit of background: I used to be fairly sporty (fencing and cycling more than running) but last year started to try running more. While training for a marathon I started getting injured and couldn't work out why (I'm not very smart that way...)

Culminated in having my right knee sieze up in the closing stages of a 30km race. In a fit of frustration I took off my shoes and ... was able to run the final km basically pain free.

So I am going back to basics and doing all my running barefoot. It'll take a long time to get my milage back to where it was, but along the way I hope to have given my body the time it needs to grow into it.

I'm hoping to run my first barefoot 5km towards the end of June, and see how things go.

What else? Well, I'm vegan, and am based in northern Germany but am originally from London.

Bye for now :)

Welcome! Be sure to join the Germany and UK Chapters if you wish, Chapter link above.

Hi Footsie, I´ve let you in a minute ago. Welcome! You´re taking it slow (increasing mileage, I mean). That sounds good. You´ll be surprised how much pay-off there will be with some patience. Having patience is one of the more difficult tasks of learning barefoot running. But it´s worth it!

Hi Jo, thanks for letting me join you over there - in case you haven't noticed, I'm reclaimtherun over on YouTube (have commented on some of your vids).

Ich gehe jetzt um mich im Deutschland Chapter artig vorzustellen!

Welcome, Footsie! I'm a big fan of Lübecker Marzipan... I always have my parents-in-law bring me some back when they visit :).
Hi Robbie, shame I don't like it very much, but that leaves all the more for you ;)

Welcome to the crew. You've found a great place to glean from the experience of others. Viel Spass in Deutschland - I used to live in Stuttgart (I'm from Tennessee originally). Yes, a hillbilly in Koeing Luedwig's court.
Thanks for the welcome, Phil. I've already learnt a lot being here and you all seem like a nice bunch, so I'm looking forward to being part of this!
