What are your favorite minimalist shoes?

Now that the cold weather is

Now that the cold weather is gone, I've been running almost exclusively in my (Barefoot Ted) huaraches.

As of yesterday's 35K run in them, they've officially become my favourite!

I'm huge fan of my VFF

I'm huge fan of my VFF Classics. They have started to hurt just above the heel (that little pull on tab). I've coated it in Mole Skin, that helps but not much. Anybody got any suggestions on that? Other than that little issue I'm overly sold on VFF's.

On the other hand, I haven't tried any others yet so I don't have a lot to compare to. I'm hankering to try the EVO and wondering how those Skora shoes are gonna turn out.

Have you thought about

Have you thought about cutting off that bungee tab at the heel of your Classics? I've read where others have done that, and it seemed to resolve that chaffing problem.

 I've had scissors in hand

I've had scissors in hand and then backed off. A: I don't want to hurt my babies :) B: I'm a little worried about the bungee strap becoming an even bigger problem, the little tab being the only separation. If this is what others are doing though and I'm making mountains out of mole hills, I'm down for it.

Don't do it if you're not

Don't do it if you're not 100% sure and comfortable with that decision. Yikes. I'd feel bad if it went wrong. Think about it a while longer, please?

Get a sheet of 35"x11" sheet

Get a sheet of 35"x11" sheet 4mm cherry from eBay for $35 and parachute cord from a local Army-Navy store or outdoor shop. You can make several pairs, play around with designs, etc. I bought a nice leather punch at Amazon for $8.

Depends on the day and

Depends on the day and weather. A hot summer day - huaraches all the way! A cooler fall day - KSOs or Bakila. I still haven't found anything that I love on cold winter days. I'll probably have to bite the bullet and get something from Terra Plana though.

Gotta go with the VFF

Gotta go with the VFF Classics as well.

Not sure if I could ever go back to a close-toe sort of shoe.

BTW - the EVO was on display at the San Diego RnR Expo and I wasn't impressed. Even though it was very light, I still felt as if it was too gaudy and basically still too much shoe.

My favorite footwear are moccasins but it too hot in summer for those so its VFF kso's when I'm not barefoot...footwear is for trail running only for me. I stop running pavement in the late fall till march except when its warm enough for barefooting.

Moccasins are worth looking into for trail running in the winter, not the really thin kind but the 4 - 5 mm thick kind without any rubber sole material. They are about as protective as Kso's and paired with wool socks are warm enough down into at least the low 20's ...they have a different ground feel to them that I prefer over rubber soled footwear. I put about 150 miles last winter on my moccasins and they are about halfway wore thru, I even wore them on my first trail marathon race.

mokaman, do you make your own mocs or buy them?

I have Arrow brand moccasins which are very hi quality and heavy duty but are really too nice just to wear out fast by running in them. Mine are 4 or 5 years old and till this last winter were work shoes but they fit a little too tight now since my feet are thicker now from barefooting for several years.

My plan is to make my own for running with thick leather thats cheaper even though they will be lower quality, if they last 1 or 2 winters that would be great still. I'm thinking I could make a pair for $20 - $30 hopefully, I'll try this in the fall...hhmm...I have huaraches to make then too.

 At the moment my favorite

At the moment my favorite for running would have to be VFF KSO and my NB MT100 which might not be consider as a minimalist shoe to some, but I like them when the trail requires a little more sole. I bought a pair of RunAmoc’s but haven’t tried them out as of yet. In the office I'll wear Terra Plana Vivobarefoot Oaks and Dharma, both great minimalist shoes.

I've been running two months

I've been running two months now in my VFF KSO's, and they are offcially my favorite shoe now. Even on 110 degree AZ asphalt
