can't believe how much my feet have changed!

In a fit of weakness with sore knees today, and also partly just for the fun of it, I tried on my old Asics Gel Kakayno 15s today. Same size as my trail gloves and NB zero drop trails, but I found them unwearable.

My feet now bulge out across the width of the upper, stretching it out into thin air by about a centimetre on the outer edge, not so much on the inner. They also seem snugger on the length.

I was amazed at the apparent change in foot size. Anyone else has similar changes?

That's the curse of barefoot running, "Normal" shoes no longer fit. I had to switch to these for my more formal outings where sandals don't cut it.

Same here. I started my transition last year with Merrell trail glove size 10. Ran lots of barefoot on top of that and this spring had to get a new pair of TGs because the old ones were too tight. New size? 11.5 normal TGs, 11 in the new wide models.

Now, Paulie, I see your foot got longer too. How the heck does that happen??? Mine went from a 10 to an 11-11.5 depending on shoe. Weird. I figured they would get shorter (due to strengthening of the arch) but wider.

I had a pair of, occasionally worn, dress shoes that were in need of re-heeling. After their last outing I decided to retire them. Too short, too narrow, too stiff.

Keep it up Pirate and you will be shopping for new shoes.

For me: wider feet, thicker feet, old shoes rub on the top of my foot from a better arch, a little more on the length. Still have hammer toes. It might take years to straighten them out.

I need to post a picture of my first Unshoes sandals next to my new ones. Quite a difference.

I have been running 10 months and mine are .5 wider.

My feet did get longer, but not as much as they got wider. The 11.5 TGs I have look a bit like clown shoes on me because there's a good thumb's thickness between my front toes and the front of the shoe--all to accommodate the extra width. I had flat feet pre-BF and my arches popped up a bit, along with the general flattening/widening so they are now flipper-width.

Gentle, in Paraganek's thread "Sole conditioning at 18 months (photo comparison)" you said that the bottoms of you feet look similar. I would say that is quite a "change". It was my sore knees, advice from you and others, and this photo that made me shelve my min-shoes in February. The 3 month progression has been incredible. Thank You.

If someone could link over the thread or photo, or tell me how to do so, I would appreciate it.

Pre-barefoot days shoe size 9 or 9.5, now size 11.5 ... my feet are not longer but are wider in the front plus the perception on whats a comfortable fit has changed greatly. I like a loose fit now as opposed to my feet being shoe horned into place before.

I bet some notice more of a change than others depending on their initial state - I mean some of you all have been atleast somewhat barefoot as a lifestyle for a long time right? Maybe going bf for running wasnt as much of a change? I know for me I was never barefoot, heck I wouldnt even wear sandals. I've noticed small changes but I havent got the miles on the feet like most of you all yet.

@DNEchris if your looking for a new pair of dress shoes I actually just got a new pair last week and so far love them, Vivobarefoot Ra in black leather. Only minimalist solution I've found so far that passes as a regular dress shoe. If you can swallow the price tag anyhow.

Rick, yes my soles look like that now but as far skeletal and shape I don't see a difference.

I have been running barefoot for close to 3 years now, and still waiting to see this "change" they everyone talks about. They are still thin, flat as a pancake, and my little toes are still curved in.
Yah, thirty years of barefooting, about a year of consistent barefoot running now, and several years of barefoot running 20 years ago, and I've never noticed any change. I can still fit into the moccasins that I bought in high school.

Although the other day my brother did say my toes looked more muscular . . . so maybe there's something to it.

Yeah the number of miles definitely make a difference, and I'm sure so does how good your form is, as well as how often you go barefoot outside of running. I mainly do trail running now and that has made my arches distinctly stronger, since an uneven surface is necessary to build arch strength. I also do arch exercises.
