"Brute strength and ignorance"

That's a term I heard thrown around a lot in my time in the Army. It basically means "Executing the mission confidently despite being grossly underprepared and inadequately informed." Very applicable to my current situation.

So have you ever gone into a race "Brute strength and ignorance"?

Actually happened today on my long run. Decided to run a faster pace than the group and on the way back, huge gusts of wind totally took my "brute strength".

Run the marathon. Enjoy it. Eat and drink properly and i think youll be fine,

I go into life using mostly brute strength and ignorance. Much of what we did in the Marine Corps is based on this premise!

Chad you might find that the race was an excellent idea, go for it and aim for that sweet spot between shitting yourself and wearing A green cartoon character costume. Although . . . The costume would likely hide most, ahem, accidents.

Have a great run, start slow and enjoy.:)

Nice blog post! Although I'm having a hard time getting that guy's photo out of my mind. I guess if he could establish a lead it would take a strong stomach to pass him.
Anyway, I think doing stuff on a whim is great--story of my life really. Let us know how it goes. I may be next.

Wait wait wait...THOSE are the ends of the continuum? Wearing a cartoon character costume and sh!tting yourself? Wow - all kinds of latitude going on there! I can see the thought process "OK, I have a marathon to run today and I am woefully unprepared. Considering this, should I wear a giant cartoon character costume? Or should I sh!t myself? .........Ya know, at the risk of being labeled a wimp, I think I'm going to play it safe and wear the costume."

If you decide to go with the costume, choose a brown one...just sayin' :D

Hmmm, there might be other options available, but really, once you've examined the extremes, everything in the middle is, well, just in the middle. You have to be prepared for the very best or worst. A brown costume is a good idea however. Heck, you could run dressed as a port-a-john, then your costume would be complete when, well you get the idea.

And you might make a lot of friends during the race.
