Running at Night

I always wondered about night running. Ive avoided it for the very reason of stepping on something I couln't see, but I've alwyase wanted to try it.
I bet you feel like you are running faster too! =)

I feel like I am running slower. I can't see my surroundings passing me by, so I feel like I am nearly standing still (not really). It's kind of like tunnel vision for me.

Trail run at night...that would be a blast.
It would also seem somewhat more dangerous as you pointed out.
I love how the woods come alive at night!

At heart, I am a night person. There is definitely a different, and more powerful, energy at night! I "accidentally" ended up running at sunset and into the dark a little bit and I LOVED it. It was on pavement though, but it was awesome. Not sure I'm down with a trail run at night, unless I could find a nice smooth one.

I wouldn't mind running barefoot at night, but the sidewalks that I run on here have these plants that are about a foot high bordering on the road side. Looks good during the day but at night the oncoming traffics lights cause those plants to throw a super black shadow and you can't see anything below your knees. Wouldn't bother me if the sidewalks were perfectly smooth and all I had to worry about stepping on were branches and rocks, but unfortunately some of the sections of pavement are raised a couple inches and then conversely dropped a couple inches and I don't like stubbing my toes or bruising my arch from landing on a drop off on the arch. Hurts super bad and takes a long time to heal, I wouldn't recommend ever bruising your arch. :barefoot:

Personally, I'd do exactly what you are doing.
I was a barefoot runner over the summer last year and loved the feeling of it. However I'm running in huaraches now because I start running in the dark (6 AM) and I'm worried about stepping on something that I just can't see. I'm also concerned because the Seattle city streets where I run are not particularly clean. It's industrial and has a large homeless population.

What would recommend if I wanted to start running barefoot in this area? headlamp? Hepatitis shot?
