I would like to start counting how many miles/kilometers it is that im running each week or day, but I dont know how I can count them...
Should I get a GPS watch or what? I dont have a lot of money either. Not looking for anything fancy.
Thanks.

If you can remember your route afterwards and/or stick to the same routes, there's online running logs such as http://www.logyourrun.com/ or http://www.mapmyrun.com/. There may be others. I've only used mapmyrun and would have to say it's not that great--at least the free version. For example, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to sort runs, so if you wanted to total up all your miles BF or whatever, you have to do it manually.

Runkeeper is a free iPhone/iPad or android app that you can either have clock your run as you go (carrying your device) or load it in later manually at the website. If you do the former, the info gets sent direct after your run. In the stats section you can look at weekly, monthly and daily distances etc. Works well for me at the moment and costs $0 (or you can go 'elite' for $20/yr and have more data available but this is optional, though inexpensive...) If you take your phone to listen to music, it could be a good option.

I use the "cardio trainer app" on my android phone. You can track your run with the gps feature, it will graph your speed, give you split times, steps taken on your run so you can figure out your cadence, plus many other features. And it was free.

MapMyRun and other apps for smartphones with GPS can do it. Or an easy, simple way (if your route isn't too terribly long or complicated) is to just trace your route in Google Earth using the distance measure tool to make a path.

Nike Plus is a fairly inexpensive system that uses an accelerometer in / on your shoe, or strapped to your ankle, to estimate distance. With calibration some people are able to get reasonable accuracy. My daughter loves Runkeeper, though her iPhone doesn't have sufficient battery life to track runs for hours on end. I have a Garmin 305 and love it for many reasons. If I forgot it, or it's not charged, I use MapMyRun, plotting my route out manually, and that's free. I have a friend who runs roads but not trails, and she's just driven her routes a few times and noted landmarks according to her car's odometer, and that works for her.

I use MapMyRun for iPhone but I have been disappointed with it lately. First of all, it miscalculates my pace every. Single. Time. If on the Workout page I go into Edit--> More Options it automatically recalculates it correctly but I have to do that for every run. I have sent them a bug report but nothing has changed. It also does weird stuff when I view my splits- like showing I leaped to off the coast of the African continent in 10 seconds just before I started my run... It's obviously some sort of GPS malfunction. Hopefully the latest update corrected some of that, but lately I have just been manually mapping my runs on the MapMyRun site and leaving my phone at home.

I don't use anything fancy. I have a watch. I mainly go by total time divided by my average pace to determine my miles. I have a pretty good idea how to get my pace by race times or other timed runs with a known distance. Then, I usually round down my mileage because I never seem to run as fast as I think I can.

Another good app (for iPhone, Android, Nokia, Blackberry,...) is Endomondo. Works great and the website gives you the possibility to view & organise your workouts (weekly, monthly, yearly overview...). Excellent App!

ismoothrun if you have an iphone or use daily mile to manually input info. Ismoothrun can be setup to automatically sync your runs with garmin, nike, dailymile, runkeeper, twitter, facebook and other sites.

I have used http://ridewithgps.com to map out both runs and bicycle rides, though it's mainly geared towards cycling. But it works just fine for walking/running routes, too.
