Just want to complain (can't complain to shod friends about bf, right?)
My legs are fine, feet are fine, soles are RAW.
The weather just turned from ok to fantastic around here, but warm (60s &70s F), so I've been bf every chance I could get and running a lot outside, on chip seal(which was feeling fine, even with all the gravely bits), sidewalk, whatever, but the last run that did it was about 5k on the outdoor rubber covered concrete track at school. It was warm and sunny and didn't feel nice on my feet but I went anyways.
OUCH.
The bottoms of my feet were growing nice thick skin, now it's all thin and raw with a few tiny blisters in weird spots. Had to run in shoes yesterday. Grrrrrrr waaaaaaaaah boo hoo
Shoes are making my feet sweaty and unhappy in this hot weather. Grrrrrr
Anyone else have this TMTS experience with skin? This didn't happen to me when I started bf last fall, even in the same temperatures or higher.

Well, I'm having my own sole issues, so I can definitely commiserate. My blisters are the result of increasing my mileage too quickly on hilly cold wet chip seal, and not allowing recovery days in between longer runs. Stupid, stupid.

It's snowing here right now, so I'm not being enticed into this by warm weather, but the result is the same.

I hear you, scedastic. It has warmed up nicely and I've done a few 3.5 to 5 mile barefoot runs on nice smooth concrete. But, my feet end up a bit sensitive and even a small blister. I'm kinda bummed that I'm not ready to run the Shamrock 8k barefoot (on asphault) this Saturday. VFFs it is then.

Currently in the same situation. I took a bit of time off over the winter, and now that I have some 70 degree days I dont want to take a day off....now my unconditioned souls are complaining...just hot spots though =)
Today should be interesting

That is why you must suck it up and learn to run barefoot in the winter as well.
I tried! Only once a week or so, for a little while, and out around the house and property in the snow, but it wasn't easy. My feet were going numb almost instantaneously. It was getting better, but still, I'm a delicate flower. There is also salt everywhere here in the winter to ridiculous quantities.
I do hate having to start all over, though. Maybe next fall I will really be able to toughen up!

I concur with BGentile. Plan for next winter to get out there. You end up with a head start once the warm weather arrives. You will surprise yourself with your ability to run sub-freezing. I did more barefoot running this winter (approx 250 miles) and more running overall. The salt and gravel chunks just add character in the Spring. Relax and land even more lightly. The roads and sidewalks will feel like silk, once they have been cleaned up.

I stay away from salty slush/puddles. They just burn too much for my liking.

Just wanted to add the comment that, the more sensitive you skin, the MORE time you have to spend on rough surfaces to keep your feet toughened up. Yippee! :)

I was threatening myself with bucket training to maintain winter conditioning of the Plantar Skin, but never got around to it. I ended up running BF out on the trails around my haouse every week of the year so far. A statistical fluke, I'd say, but I'm certainly not complaining.
