Article: My First Barefoot Ultramarathon: The Skyline 50K - Part II By Barefoot Terry

Very inpsiring indeed. I can't wait to start reaching the upper heights of distance. I know it's going to be a long road, but reading race reports like this make it all worth while, and all the more easy.

Hey Terry

Great reading. As far as that 50 miler goes why don't you put Comrades Ultra Marathon on your bucket list. 56 miles all on tar. With 18,000 entries each year definitely the worlds biggest. www.comrades.com

As far as I know no one has done the whole thing barefoot in any of the 86 annual runnings.

Well done! Great conclusion. I would love to do something like this someday. Your feet look like they took a beating but friom the pictures of the scenery, looks like it was worth it

Hey Terry, now I know what you were up to when I invited you to a barefoot run. Sounds like a memorable experience indeed. Hopefully next time I'm here it'll work out. I will be leaving Stockton next Wednesday.

Peace

Hey all,

Thank you for your comments. I had a blast running the race. I never thought I'd ever be an ultramarathoner and sure as hell never thought I'd be doing it barefoot. So all in all, it's been quite an experience.

SJW - I've heard about the Comrades Ultra. Wow, that would be fun to race in another country. I don't think that will be happening anytime soon, unless I get some kind of sponsorship ;)

Elvis - Yeah, the bottoms were not too bad - a little tender. I couldn't get all the dirt off for a couple days. As for the swelling, it was pretty much gone after 2 - 3 days. Probably due to pushing those extra few miles I didn't train for. I'm not sure, but I think I saw a pic of Last Place Jason's feet somewhere after some long race and they looked similar.

Joe - I'm sending you a PM, maybe we can get together for a run before you leave.

Nice Terry! Glad to see you have really come a long way in the last year since the Cinderella run.

I've be on the sidelines for an entire year with an entrapped nerve in my leg and then a dislocated peroneal tendon, but it's been a few months since the surgery and I'm itching to start running again. Once I do, I'll be certain to join some of the BF runs!

Keep on inspiring us all!!

John

That...was...AWESOME! Great read, that inspires my barefoot convictions. Those swollen feet look knarly! As soon as I can find a local 10k, I'm on it. Most definitely looking forward to racing barefoot.

Terry, wow. As a begining barefoot runner reading your story was amazing. I am training for my first ever 5K and im going to do it bafefoot. Im 28 and would love to one day complete an ultra. Any advice?

Thanks Vibramfreak,

The best advice I could give is to take it slow and listen to your body. As you build your miles, you will begin to understand how far you can push your body. Patience is a tough one. I had a couple of setbacks leading up to this race - I had actually planned to do an ultra last spring but got sick which botched my training. Best of luck on your first barefoot 5K and hope to see news of your first ultra in a year or two!
