Hey guys,

Another review is up on the blog. This time I review the Luna Equus huaraches. I was rather disappointed with the sandal. I expected more out of this sandal, and for numerous reasons found myself reaching for my cheaper and more conventional huaraches. Let me know what you think of the review.

Puff.

Puffin, I've seen mixed

Puffin, I've seen mixed reviews on the elasticized laces and it sucks that this tainted your review so much, but it's understandable. I also know that they do custom sizing for free, so there should be no reason you didn't get ones that fit. Other than that good review. I just got the ATS from Luna and am having issues with the same cover things you were. The people at Luna are being very good to me and working with me to try to fix this lacing issue. Good luck with your future Lunas if you get any.

Oh I agree. I wasn't blaming

Oh I agree. I wasn't blaming Luna for the sizing. I was in a time crunch and wanted them before my Vegas trip. I don't fault them for that. The other things I do have a problem with are directly related to design issues. I had really high hopes. I may order a pair of originals just because I have heard nothing bad about them, and I feel like Ted's original was his best model. Sometimes all the bells and whistles just takeaway from the beautiful simplicity of what was intended.

I couldn't agree more with

I couldn't agree more with your comment "sometimes all the bells and whistles just take away from the beautiful simplicityof what was intended." I seem to dislike when people "update" or "fix" and already good product. Usually that makes the product become a worse product. Mike swears by the original Luna, only naked top. I have yet to try them because I have my own homemade huarache that I absolutely love. I had really high hopes for the ATS model too, and feel let down by the strapping system and the stitch covers. Those covers can be a little on the aggravating side if you have sensitive skin like I do. The sole will be good for what I'm running through, just wish they had a thinner version of it.

Yep. I have my own homemade

Yep. I have my own homemade pair too. I am still tinkering with my lunas on the lacing. I just wish they'd have left them alone.

the laces are tricky to get

the laces are tricky to get tied like they have them but at least mine are no longer coming apart. i like the new lacing system. my laces lasted longer than the tread which i had replaced recently.

I'm not sure how long you

I'm not sure how long you tested the sandals Puff, but don't give up on them just yet. You really do need several months of consistent wear to fully appreciate the shell cordovan leather. Once you break the leather in, they are a lot better than they are right out of the box. I wore them all summer, and they pretty amazing now.

I'd never run in them though. They are just a really, really expensive casual sandal in my opinion.

I have similar problems with the Equus laces. Depending on the sandal you get from Luna, they either work great or are annoying as hell.

I'm never sure how to feel about Luna. They make really high quality products, but I think they are hit and miss. The original Luna is still the gold standard in huaraches. Stuff like the Equus is just kind of....weird....

I gave them about 3 months of

I gave them about 3 months of consistent wear, now I just break them out whenever I feel like getting "fancy." I'm determined to get the lacing fitted. I think their stuff is hit or miss too. I'm thinking of maybe buying a leather treatment to "hack" the time it takes to get the leather conditioned from foot oil. Not sure yet though.

I've actually gotten the fit/lacing pretty close. So that's reassuring. I don't think I'll ever be able to run in them. I'm ok with that too.

I have a pair of the Luna

I have a pair of the Luna Equus with the elastic laces, I like them. I have had mine for about 5 months, the footbed has some nice give to it now. I don't run in them though, I use them for daily wear, biking, skateboarding, hiking, walking, etc..... I wear them in winter as well.

A fitting tip for any

A fitting tip for any huarache: the most important aspect of fit (this is according to Pat Sweeney by the way...and I agree completely) is placement of the ankle holes. If it's off, you're never going to get a great fit.

So if you order a pair of sandals, always order them custom. The stock Lunas will be hit or miss. I made that mistake with the Equus. My custom Originals on the other hand fit perfectly.

Yep. I agree with you about

Yep. I agree with you about the holes. They gotta line up just right, or your boned.

I just ordered some the other day, I wish I'd read this before I odrered mine. Oh well, I can always exchange them for custom if I have to.

i have a pair of originals

i have a pair of originals with leather footbed and the 5/8" equus laces and they are the ONLY thing i will run in. I LOVE MINE! i love that they will do custom sizing for free - i think its great. no problems here, quite the opposite, just my .02
