Barefoot info glut

I worked the finish line for a 10K this morning with my track club, had a good time. The funny thing was, word about my barefoot running is really getting around. I get lots of questions, and lots of teasing if I'm wearing shoes to stand at the finish line in 40 degree weather

But what cracks me up the most is all the people that want to tell ME all about barefoot running. Random people will say, "Oh, you're the barefoot runner? I just read this great article, it said....." And then proceed to tell me about all the benefits of barefoot running and why people should run barefoot,

. Um, yea, I know!

I don't mind, and it gives me a chance to expand on what they have read, but I just get tickled when they approach me like they are telling me something new.

Anyway, there were at least 2 runners out of 161 in Vibrams, not a bad turn out!

I found this in races last

I found this in races last year as well. But prior to 2009, I think people didn't know what to think about seeing a barefoot runner. Most of the reactions, when people noticed, were gasps.

I get that all the time,

I get that all the time, Wendy. Those are my observations exactly. I was running my 10 mile route barefoot the other day, and this girl going the opposite directions yells, "You should get a pair of Vibram FiveFingers!" Like she somehow knew something I didn't and wanted to enlighten me. What I found funny about it was that she must have thought I was some lonely cave woman who had not come out of the cave in many years to find that mankind evolved to put hides on their feet.

It's great though. She was by no means a runner (trust me, that's all I'll say), but even she had learned the benefits of running minimal, at least, from somewhere in the media.

At the ING race a runner came beside me and said that, I should get Vibrams, funny part was I had Vibrams hanging there on my belt, I said you mean these and told him they were for going into the stores. His face was like...this does not compute....

 I guess all that barefoot

I guess all that barefoot info hasn't quite made it to my wife's health club trainer yet...my wife happen to mention that I wear vffs and also run barefoot...her response was the standard "oh that's not good, he could get a bad fungus infection".

I've got 4 races coming up

I've got 4 races coming up over the next 5 weeks, all 5 and 10k's. They will be my first BF races, with my VFF's as backup. I'm really curious to see the reaction. I was actually able to buy my VFF's at a local boot shop of all places. They have been carrying them over a year, and said they are in quite high demand. I was very pleased with the selection. They had all colors, styles and sizes in stock for both men and women. I'm excited to see if anyone else shows up at the races with them. Then I can spread the word about the BRS.

Spread the word, spread the

Spread the word, spread the word.

I wonder what brought the boot store to carry VFFs.

They carry Teva's and some

They carry Teva's and some other hiking boots as well as work boots, so I'm guessing it came from the hiking crowd first. They actually have a bunch of VFF's in their window display, right alongside all the "nomral" shoes and boots.

Yes, Dirt, that makes sense.

Yes, Dirt, that makes sense. They were originally kayaking/water shoes, so maybe the whole "outdoorsy" thing is the tie-in.

I talked to two shod ultra

I talked to two shod ultra runners last evening about barefoot and VFF's, ran into them on a trail when I was barefoot running, seems they know 2 other barefooters that I'm not unaware of in my area. Will try do a little running with them in the near future.

Today at work one of my co-workers that knows I'm a barefooter tried to convince me to try these crazy Vibram toe shoes his daughter just bought, I said they sound nuts and he went on and on...I had to laugh!!... a bit before I told him I had some already.

Just think this is still the beginning for all this really, if its overload now just wait !!

When I was on a barefoot run

When I was on a barefoot run back in January (nice warm snap) a young man saw me go by and ran out in his Vibrams shouting, "You need some of these!" I laughed, told him I had some and we talked about barefoot for a while. Good kid, he was hoping to get into the Navy Seals, looked like he could do it!

Hubby says a couple of the guys at his base in Afghanistan ordered them online and were wearing them for PT.
