Dude, that first day of shorts weather on the drag by UT is the best drive ever, but a lot of small car accidents! -edited to save my future jobs.

Yes... What are talking about? I was talking about seeing some really fast runners or maybe some members of the UT track team or XC team.

Hope the heel comes along and you can hammer out some of those races. Are you going to run Umstead at some point in the future?

I would eventually like to tackle Umstead - probably in the same year that I would run WS or Badwater. Even though I can roll out of bed and run to the start, my plan is to pace at Umstead for the next year or two. My short-term goal is to do 50 marathons/50 states/50 weeks.

I am doing:Two Oceans 56 km

I am doing:
  • Two Oceans 56 km Ultra in April.
  • Comrades Marathon in May (89 km).

Plans are still somewhat

Plans are still somewhat tentative... waiting for our clinic schedule. It looks like we'll be following the Down and Dirty series around the country in 2012, which obviously isn't ultra-distance. Fun, though!

Anyway, this is what we have so far:
  • Across the Years 72 hour (they still have spots open) in Phoenix
  • Bandera 100k (Shelly), TX
  • Rocky Raccoon, TX
  • Way too Cool 50k (Shelly), CA
I entered the Hardrock lottery but didn't get in. I'll likely try to schedule at least two 100s, but I have to wait for the schedule. I'd like to make it back to Pineland Farms (50 miler in Maine) and maybe Woodstock (various distances in MI in September.)

Not something you would consider banditing? Hee.

I know.  That's why it would

I know. That's why it would be hysterical, and sounds like something you would actually try to get away with.

@Jason - are you planning on

@Jason - are you planning on doing ATY bf? If so, is there an official 72 HR bf world record? I've been kicking around doing a 48 hour here in Texas, if the course is bf friendly

Bubba- I'm kicking it around.

Bubba- I'm kicking it around. I know the course is gravel, which could range from adequate to horrible. I've tried long runs on gravel before, and the sensation becomes too annoying at about 30-35 miles. I might still give it a shot, though. At the very least, starting barefoot will keep my form in check for the first part of the race. As far as I know, there's no record. I didn't bother contacting Guinness... that process is a pain in the ass. Part of the requirement is to have continuous video for the duration... all 72 hours.

I'm still debating on RR, too. If weather is warm enough, I'll probably start barefoot and swith to Trail Gloves if needed.

Of course, i don't know that I'm in "ultra" shape anyway... just finishing RR may be a challenge.

Anyone know if Todd Ragsdale

Anyone know if Todd Ragsdale will be returning to RR this year?

Adam, I dont know if its so

Adam, I dont know if its so much determination, or a lack of quality shoes... lol.

Plus the trails at RR shouldnt be too different than the trails I run at my house, geographically its the same region. So I might come out with a few bruises, but I think thats going to happen in any minimalist shoe....

I think that the only thing that might give me problems would be nutrition. I dont know what or when to eat, so Im just going to go with the always reliable "Oh, that looks good!" method when I come to an aid station. Im pretty sure my diet will consist of honey water, honey chia water, water, and about 6 dozen Chips Ahoy cookies... lol!

Meltzer, huh?  We'll have to

Meltzer, huh? We'll have to listen to his pro-Hoka/anti-minimalist rants. Awesome.

Chaser- that strategy should work. The real key- have at least one "go-to" food that you will be able to eat at any point in the race. Once you get to around 35-40, lots of foods start losing their appeal. Having at least one source of calories can save a race. For me, chia is my most reliable.

Thanks Jason! So if you were

Thanks Jason! So if you were to reccomend one pair of Merrells to a guy who only runs BF, but needs something for some more technical 50 milers, what would your suggestion be?

I have a hard time giving a

I have a hard time giving a specific recommendation because shoes fit individual feet differently. All of the Merrells fit more or less the same, so if one works, others likely will, too. In that case, I'd recommend Trail Gloves. They'll get you through any ultra you'll find in your neighborhood. If weather is close to freezing, they'll be my shoe of choice at RR.

Draq Queen Clubs? You must be

Draq Queen Clubs? You must be thinking of A&M and their male cheer leaders. UT is AMAZING to be at when shorts weather starts.

Jason, I think I am following the same idea. I am going barefoot, Trail Gloves if needed, and then if my feet feel bad, I will switch the MT 110s no sooner than 35 miles in so if I destroy my knees I can still at least finish then suffer.

I may try another 50K or something later in the year. I'd like to run a faster marathon in 2013 and then the CCUM and a 100 in 2014, but it seems that Caballo Blanco dude is spending a lot of time trashing barefoot runners after his falling out with McDougall.
