In the past I tried making shoes for me and for the kids when they were babies. I experimented with different styles of home made patterns and my shoes were usable but always looked like slippers.

This website (http://www.myshoeology.com/) sells patterns and soling material at a very reasonable price. And the shoes look good unlike mine. Before ordering a pattern+instructions I wanted to check if anybody ever tried their patterns and how detailed the instructions are.

This is the model I

This is the model I like:

And the boots look pretty cool too for the winter:

What a novel idea!  I had

What a novel idea! I had never thought of such. Those boots don't even look homemade.

I bought the 3-in-1 pattern

I bought the 3-in-1 pattern for my wife's birthday along with the soling material they send. We haven't made them yet but they seem to be pretty good patterns. One thing that bothers me is that there are three different files whichI assumed were the three different styles of shoes but there is just one file with the pattern and the rest is supporting info. I think it would be nice to have the information in the same PDF file as the pattern.

The soling material looks great. It's very minimal but we'll see how long it lasts. Of course it's for causal wear and not running but I might take some and test it out for running. It is polyester with a coat of rubber on it. If we actually make the shoes anytime soon I'll be sure to report back!

Thanks for the info Tfox.I

Thanks for the info Tfox.

I just ordered the loafer pattern. I ended up ordering from their Etsy store (http://www.etsy.com/shop/shoeology) so I could use my Paypal without registering again.

In my previous shoes experiment I found that leather coated with Plastidip worked very well even in wet conditions. Of course if you push off instead of lifting the feet it will wear faster, so I think it may wear faster if I use them for everyday wear instead of running. I'll try that with the loafers and order the polyester soling later if needed.

I would love to make the boots but it seems more time/material intensive. I'm thinking a felted wool boot would be comfortable and snowproof.

I will report the results.
