I ran in a big race Thursday morning. 8500+ people. 5 miler called the Boulevard Bolt. Best I could tell I was the only barefoot runner. There was a light dusting of VFF's and other minimalist shoes. It was a cold start (38) but set to warm up quickly. The road had just been repaved a couple of months ago. It was just too perfect of a set up to even think about shoes. I was expecting a few more of us to take advantage of it but no, it was just me all alone. Can I get some violin music?

I did run a good race for me in spite of a very slow first mile. A man near me called out 12 minutes when we past the marker. Way too many walkers lined up near the start line and maybe 1000 people ahead of me before I got to the line. I still managed to get an average pace of just under 9 minutes.

"a light dusting of VFFs..." Ha! Oh so funny!

A newly paved road?! Ahhhhhh!

but just think how mad you

but just think how mad you would have been if only one other bf runner had been there, wearing the same outfit as you, but smaller size, or maybe younger looking?, and running just a bit faster, and with a little more attitude.

at least you didn't have to share the spotlight ;)

Yep...me too, although I

Yep...me too, although I heard there were a couple in the Half I did earlier this month and there was one in the 5K yesterday, but I did the 10K, so I never saw him. Sub 9...NICE!!!

At my 15K trail run yesterday

At my 15K trail run yesterday there were zero BF runners, not suprisingly. It was a brutal stoney course. I was pleasantly surprised at how many VFF and other Minimalist style shoes I saw. There were only about 400 runners signed up and I saw at least a dozen Min shoed runners. It was funny to me that a few people expressed that they thought I was tough to tackle the run in just Bikilas.

I'm always hearing that

I'm always hearing that violin music too.... :( I was at a Turkey Trot last week with over 1000 participants, and didn't see a single pair of VFFs, much less completely skin-to-ground as I was. And they say Boulder, CO, is home of some of the most famous barefoot runners! PShaw!

I wish I knew more local barefoot runners. But I'm going to have to stick to the regular runners at the pub-runs and after-work runs around here. *sigh...

Out of my whopping total of 5

Out of my whopping total of 5 races Ive only had fellow BFRs at 2 of them... The Austin Livestrong marathon had I think 8 BFRs (including myself) out of a little over 20,000 runners total. And the Hottest Half had 3 of us. Just think of it this way, if your the only BFR on the course than not only were you the fastest Barefoot runner there, but you also set a Course Barefoot PR!!! Way to go man! Your awesome!

I was one of the 3 with chaser and Talon at the Hottest 1/2.
