I just came across two historical accounts of Apache persistence hunting in the 1800s. We already have the fantastic movie, The Great Hunt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfeNcsQZmZY), which shows persistence hunting among the San in the Kalahari desert in southern Africa. Today I was searching for more information on W. S. George, who is credited with developing a high stepping in place exercise called the Hundred-Up (http://barefootrunners.org/forum-topic/ny-times-mcdougall-article). I came across this 1898 magazine article that mentions persistence hunting in the Apache (http://is.gd/Wi0jHI -- see page 693). Then there is a more extensive account in the New York Times in 1885 (http://is.gd/ag1BCK). I found it mentioned in a comment on a blog post (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/persistence-hunting-in-the-park/); Shacky started a thread on the blog post last year (http://barefootrunners.org/forum-topic/modern-day-persistence-hunting), but the historical account wasn't mentioned then.

I think these reports are fascinating. Do any of you know of any other reports, videos, or other evidence of persistence hunting?

I have nothing constructive

I have nothing constructive to add, but the NYT article is pretty cool. I hadn't seen this before (which kind of surprises me). Thanks, sorry I can't help.
