12.6 mile run today barefoot.. ROUGH run... last 2.6 had a lot of walking involved. While my feet did start getting tender the last couple of miles (which is normal when adding to longest distance) it was my body that was falling apart toward the end. I had started out with too much focus on cadence without enough attention to pace and heart rate. Did my first mile way too fast and the 2nd mile wasn't much better. By mile 4 it was taking a toll on me.

I ran into another point of frustration when I found out my expected route measured out on google maps with the distance tool wasn't quite right. I ended up having to go off the main trail an run on city sidewalks through downtown Cedar Rapids and at mile 6 I decided to turn around as I couldn't find decent places to run (traffic was picking up and the sidewalk surfaces were getting real nasty the further I went. I had planned to turn around at 6.6 miles and I had planned for that to happen before even getting to downtown Cedar Rapids... let alone going 5 city blocks past city center.

So my last .6 miles was running past my starting point and looking for extra distance... really took a psychological toll on my run. But... My feet look good. My body has muscles to repair... and I'm that much closer to being ready for the half marathon. :)
So for the week I've got 26.6 miles. (12.6 barefoot and the rest in my Altra Adam's) I'd say I've officially gotten to the point where my feet and my body and my fitness are all in agreement with my distance limitations. By that I mean at first my feet made me cut my distance shorter than my body and fitness were capable of. Then I got to the point where my fitness ran out before my feet and body did. Now I'm bumping into all 3 at once which I suppose is what one would expect with traditional training.

You've got this in the bag!

You've got this in the bag! Congrats on a great, long run!

Congrats on the distance!

Congrats on the distance! Hopefully in a couple months I'll be running like that. Stinking calf injury set me back a couple months. How do you like the Altra Adams? I tried them on a few times, but I'm awful fearful of how the strap goes across the pinky toe. I can see how it may cause a lot of friction. Hard to find reviews still about these.

Sorry to hear about the

Sorry to hear about the setback Nick. I keep that front strap VERY loose... In fact, I set them at loose and then back them off another 1/4" inch looser yet. :) I like them a lot. I use the flat insert for walking in them and no inserts for running.
