VFFs Are the Worst shoes for your feet

Yes, it's taboo (I would think on any forums) to add words to a quote from someone else, words they did not say. No hard feelings. :)

I dig my VFFs. Fixed my knee issues and made running fun again (for the first time). I'm kind of a Vibram whore now, actually. I've got a pair for running, Bikilas, a pair for teaching, KSOs, and a pair for hiking, TrekSports. And yes, the kids trip out on the toe shoes at the begining, but now they are cool with them. Even have one kid, fourth grade, who wears his own pair of KSOs to school 2-3 times a week.

Man, I wish I could get away with teaching in my VFFs! It's really been bothering me that I spend all day in 'normal' shoes and then transition to BF/minimalist as soon as I get home. I can't help feeling like I'm fighting a losing battle since I spend a good 36+ hours a week, standing/walking on concerete, in regular shoes. I don't think VFFs would be seen as acceptable, professional, footwear in my school. No matter how hard I argued otherwise.

SoleSalace, there are a few professional looking minimalist shoes out there that would at least be a little better than wearing normal shoes. The Merrell Tough Glove is an example, although it is pretty spendy.

There are others but this is the only one that I have seen at the local mall, so I would assume it would be pretty easy to find locally for you.

"Fitness Trends: Minimalist Shoe
Newer additions to the shoe scene are minimalist shoes. They aim to mimic the natural feel and mechanics of walking barefoot. Brenner is not impressed. "There's no support for your heel or arch and no shock absorption," she says. In addition, in some brands, the "fingers" separate the toes, interfering with the natural walking position."

uh... what?

I think the real beauty of this is the way that she criticizes VFFs for "interfering with the natural walking position", having just complained that they don't have arch and heel support or shock absorption. A lesser thinker might have settled for just being wrong, but Dr. Brenner goes all out for inconsistency too. You have to respect ambition.

Softstar Dash Run Amoc is a nice normal looking minimalist shoe. The regualr Run Amoc isn't too bad either.

Don't forget those leather dress shoe VFFs, and in boots too!

Appreciate all the suggestions guys! I'll definitely check them out. I tried on the Merrel Trail Gloves and was not at all a fan. I don't know what it is about them but I felt like I was wearing bike shoes or something when I had them on. I'll give those others a gander though. I'd be so happy if I could find a casual/dressy minimalist shoe to wander around in. Thanks!

I really like my vibrams. I did take both pair and cut the tongue area off, because I don't like the feel of having them tight around the top of the foot - and I like them much better now - for trails and grass.
