Currently I'm running with little more than a decent pair of shorts (it's hot outside ok), and sometimes a watch to track how long I disappear on a run for. I've recently started to look into some sort of gps or such to track miles and am wondering what some other people use.

Appreciated much!

Thanks for wearing the shorts

Thanks for wearing the shorts though!

I like my Garmin 305, but I rarely wear it.

Yes, if you don't want the heart rate monitor then get the 205 and save yourself some money. I wish I had, since I never used the HRM. The 405 has way too many features for my needs and costs a lot more than the 205 and the 305.

Cub,I go the poor student

Cub,

I go the poor student route and use MapMyRun.com. The only problem I've sometimes had is remembering where it was that I ran exactly.

I also use Mapmyrun. I usually map it before hand, and leave it on the screen so my wife knows where to look if I don't come back! Hasn't happened yet, but you never know...But that does require remembering where you're supposed to run, or where you ran...

The price difference back

The price difference back when I got mine about two years ago was quite a bit more ($60 - $70?). Between the 305 and the 405 was nearly a $100 difference.

I have the Garmin 310XT. I had a 305 before and really like the upgrade difference. Not sure of costs in the US though.

Tj, i'll take it off your hands if you don't want it anymore. (pun intended). i myself have been shopping ebay for a garmin. i'm looking at training with the Maffetone method so i need a heart rate monitor. i figure if i spend money on that i later will likely want a gps so better to spend at once then waste money.

unless anyone else here wants to upgrade and make a fair price for a poor college student???
