Here's my background. I love to run. It is something I've done off and on since high school. I say off and on because gotten away from running a few time. But I still enjoy it. I just started barefoot running 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I do own vibrams but it definitely feels better to run without them. I'm taking my transition really slowly. Running three times a week barefoot, at this point I'm only going .5 miles. I do run in Nike frees after that for another 3 miles or more. This is my one concern, as I'm in the Air Force and have to keep up my mileage for my PT testing. I got my first hotspots from running this week on my toes and the ball under my big toe (both feet but right is worse), so I know I need to focus on not pushing off. I'm excite to get to know all of you and to further my bf transition. Thanks.

Scott.

Welcome, Vanagon Scott!I

Welcome, Vanagon Scott!

I agree on the VFFs. They're OK for walking, but BF is better for running. I work as a consultant for the Army at Fort Bragg. No more PT tests for me, but I did run here this AM, starting here at my building and going up to and around Pope AFB.

Sounds like you're wisely listening to your feet and not trying to do this too fast. Enjoy, and ask lots of questions here. These folks are a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Glad to have you here. Enjoy!

Phil

Thank you for your service,

Thank you for your service, Busphan! Welcome! I love that VW van in your avatar.

You know, it seems we are hearing more and more people say they are ditching the minfootwear and opting for barefoot lately. It's wonderful!

Thanks TJ and Phil for your

Thanks TJ and Phil for your warm welcome. I'm so excite to join such a knowledgeable group.

Phil I like the idea of VFF but they just haven't worked for me due to form issues. I felt like I was focusing too much, which took the fun out of running. I do know they will come in handy in the future though, like when winter comes or probably for future PT tests.

TJ, thanks, I'm proud to serve. I do think that it will cause issues with my BFR. Not the service but the footware they require. I have see, I believe on this forum, some boot alternatives, but nothing for low quarter dress shoes we wear. Also the boots I would like to try don't come in the correct color. Hopefully nike will fix that. It's funny that I said nike because throughout my life I have hated nike. They always hurt my feet. The only ones I can stand are frees.

Anyway, how long before you guys had problems or just didn't feel right(comfort) wearing regular footwear? I had some saucony's on for a trip to the grocery store and they were killing my feet before it was over. Thoughs were my best running shoes before I started trying none supportive and minimalist ones. I don't know it's probably just in my head, lol. I am going to start using my VFF for trips to the store from now on though.

About a second. Seriously. I can't wear shoes due to having nerve problems in my feet. Even open-toed shoes cause me pain after about 20-30 minutes.

Please feel free to start a thread about low quarter dress shoes. Do they have to look a certain way. There's a new company who has something that might be passable. I'll try to find the thread. Stand by.

Okay, here's the thread:

Okay, here's the thread: http://barefootrunners.org/forum-topic/minimalist-shoes-germany

Here's the shoes. How do they look? Are the black ones passable?

Oh, yes, those. The standard-issue pain in the foot shoes. Gotcha!

You are right about pain in

You are right about pain in the foot shoes, and if I remember correctly they have to have raised heel. I guess it is something I will have to deal with until I retire. Wow, that seems daunting.

There's a thread or two

There's a thread or two around here about minimalist military dress shoes. Maybe you could search for it or someone might remember some key words to search for to narrow it down.

Just finished another .5 mile

Just finished another .5 mile barefoot run with a 2.5 shod run today after my hotspots/blisters healed. It felt great! I focused on my cadance and short stride. Actually, I used a metronome on my android phone set to 190 beats per minute. It felt good and so did my feet. I still think my form could use a lot of work though. I might be griping with my toes some. I don't have blisters yet but some toes are a little tender.

You'll get there.
