SoftStar has an info page for their upcoming Moc3 shoe:

http://www.softstarshoes.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1822

Looks like Softstar is puting a lot more focus on athletics. Awesome!

I'm hoping to get a Dash shoe made with the sole and toebox of the Moc3. I like the Dash because the fit of the shoe can be adjusted around the instep, but I'm not a fan of shoes which allow my toes to touch the inside wall of the toebox, hence my idea of combining the Dash with the Moc3.

I think folks will have the

I think folks will have the same problem with this shoe that they have with the original Runamoc. There doesn't look like a whole lot to secure the shoe to your foot. So I expect that this shoe will feel like a floppy foot bag.

I think if they were floppy

I think if they were floppy like the originals, they'd fall off, they don't have laces. they must be snug... or someone made a horrible mistake =)

anyone get some yet? I bought some dashes and they're going back tomorrow, too narrow!

I have some and they're not

I have some and they're not anything like the RunAmoc. They might just be the best minimal shoe I've ever owned. I can't believe you guys aren't jumping all over these!

F4R, Do you think I will have

F4R, Do you think I will have the same issue with the heel where it attaches to the sole that I had with the Run Amoc's? Look's like a huge improvement. Might have to give Soft Star another go!

I've been running in my Run

I've been running in my Run Amoc's only since last week but I have put 60km on them already. I've had no problems with them flopping around which is what I thought would happen.

I thought about the Moc 3 but without a lace system i think they would be annoying.

I have a pair of Moc3s on

I have a pair of Moc3s on their way. (Well, Softstar webiste says the order is still being processed [and I ordered on the morning of June 24].)

Spent a ton of time debating between the Dash and Moc3 - we'll see how it goes.

Can anybody compare these to

Can anybody compare these to the Altra Adams that are supposed to come out one day sometime in the future? I'm looking for a good, non-separated-toe, extremely minimal shoe I can use to account for hot, southern asphalt in the dead of summer. It wouldn't hurt to be able to double as a "not sure what surfaces I might encounter" backup shoe as well.

Moc3 arrived today. They're

Moc3 arrived today. :)

They're floppy foot bags in all-around width and length - including lots of gappage to allow large rocks and branches to enter. Plenty of room for toe splay, arch collapse, heel blowout, and six of your closest friends. :-(

I traced and measured per their directions. Thought the sizing seemed a bit huge - a woman's 9? I typically wear 7.5-8 street shoes, 8.5 running shoes. I even rounded the size down, as I came in between a 9 & 10 on their size chart. WTH?

Yeah, they're going back.

Might try a Dash instead. Or not.

Meanwhile, my Unshoe Wokova Feathers also arrived today. I think I'm loving them! Really like the footbed material (Vibram Newflex) - it feels soft, almost like velvet or suede.

Just in time to be my pre-/post-race footwear for the Finger Lakes Fifties this weekend!

This is the problem I thought

This is the problem I thought they would have. Most Runamocs have floppy fit problems because they don't secure to your foot, and need to be sized really well. The Dash is supposed to be better...alas, I will not be trying it.

Have you thought about maybe sending them back for a custom pair? They will make them from foot tracings.

Just got off the phone with

Just got off the phone with Soft Star...

The Moc3s are not available in custom or half sizes.

We talked about my foot measurements for a good while then settled on trying a whole size down in the Dash LITE, narrow.

I'd waffled between the two shoes anyway and thought the Dash might be better with its lacing to snug things mid-foot. I was also worried that the Moc3 might be too tight in the toe box... and perhaps it would have been, if the overall fit had been better.

For me, with my narrow feet, but toes that now love to roam, and bird-like ankles, this shoe thing is getting to be a hassle! (FWIW, my favorites to-date are the Merrell Pace Gloves. They look like clown shoes on me, but my feets be so happy - secure and free at the same time! Unfortunately, I'm not yet strong enough to wear them [or any other minimal shoe] for as many miles as I want to [and do] run. So, they're being phased in along with more barefoot miles.)

Buzzie,If you want more room

Buzzie,
If you want more room in the toebox (I wouldn't blame you if you did - those toeboxes they give the RunAmocs look symmetrical to me, whereas the foot is not symmetrical), you should persuede the Softstar elves to make your Dash based on tracings of your feet.

From what I've heard, the

From what I've heard, the Dash offers a lot more secure fit. The lacing does a great job keeping your foot in there. On the other hand, I've heard that the Moc3 is a lot more floppy, even moreso than the original Runamoc.

I'd say play it safe and go with the Dash.

the dashes are a lot more

the dashes are a lot more narrow than the originals... could barely get my feet into them... that being said they should stretch a bit if they feel a bit tight.

Donald over at running and

Donald over at running and rambling is a big fan of soft star shoes and tested a lot of their prototypes of the moc3 for them. He recently did a review of them and in his photos they absolutely do not look floppy on his feet. They look like they fit like a glove, so I'm wondering if they are having some sizing issues perhaps, as I believe that they are designed to fit and move with the foot.

I have my Moc3s on right now

I have my Moc3s on right now and they are most certainly NOT floppy. I don't know how you can even look at the pictures and think they are floppy. They remind me a bit of Zems, only nicer. They are supposed to fit like a sock and they do. Not like a tight footie sock, but more like a winter sock (if that makes sense). I honestly think they might be the nicest, most comfortable minimal shoe I have. I have the RunAmocs and the Moc3s are WAY better.

Yeah, the Moc3s don't look ANYWHERE NEAR as floppy as the original RunAmocs. The shoe looks like it might work pretty well. The only reason I want the Dash upper with the Moc3 sole is that I like to secure the shoe to my foot's arch.

Since we have those who

Since we have those who actually wear the shoe present. How does the shoe fit on the back of the foot?

Reason I ask is my Vibram classics cause friction blisters from that stiff material on the back of the shoe to help keep the shoe on. That's okay for some activities, but I really need a good minshoe that doesn't cause ugly spots on the back of my foot. My KSOs are great, but I think the Moc3 might be a nice alternative.

As a barefoot enthusiast, I tend to notice feet a lot, and their condition. It makes me sad to see bumps and red rough skin on the back of the heel from shoe straps and ill fitting shoes. I am even further saddened that I am the owner of such sad looking feet now no thanks to a choice I made for the health of my feet! I am still considering huaraches, but I just think the way they tie on may still cause irritation on the back of the heel, but I haven't seen it talked about.

I like the Moc3 because it's

I like the Moc3 because it's not too tight (like the Zem sometimes is) and it's not loose (like the RunAmoc). I'm having a hard time coming up with a way to describe how the heel fits. It's more like it's just...there...I don't even notice it. It doesn't slide and it doesn't grab. The whole shoe is that way. It just conforms to my foot very nicely. Does that make sense at all??!
