So for my training, I'm considering cutting out beer... Here's why:

I had 3 tasty beers last night. I ran into work this morning (3mile commute) and my legs felt like stones! It was hard.

I figure this was due to my beer drinking last night(I didnt cap off the night with a glass of water either). When I commute, I normally roll out of bed and go.

Am I wrong to presume that beer sucked the life out of my legs this morning? Anyone else have experience?

I don't think there is

I don't think there is anything wrong with beer (actually I know LongBoard will leap to its defense).

You just drank too much and were suffering typical hangover weakness. You should be fine with a single pint.

And I'm considering never

And I'm considering never eating Mexican food ever again after yesterday's 10K run. I had an early dinner at a new Mexican restaurant, and felt good enough to go for a run afterwards. I was about 3 miles into the run when I started to get stomach cramps. I made it back to my car, and I made it back home...IN TIME! But I won't be doing that again, EVER!

Now that I'm trying to get

Now that I'm trying to get focused with training, I might just try to cut out all beer, which wont be a bad thing

And Mexican too!

And Mexican too! ;-)

I don't know if I can do

I don't know if I can do that! My go to move after a huge run is to drop by the Taco Truck for a cheap, giant burrito.

I feel like its an earned meal. You can never go wrong with food from a truck

I find that food from Taco

I find that food from Taco Bell sits well with me whereas foods from Mexican restaurants haunt me later. Ha!

I drink a six pack right

I drink a six pack right before running. Every time.

But seriously, if you don't NORMALLY drink 3 beers per night (like I do) then yes, I would blame the beer. i agree with Stomper, you were probably a bit hung over.

My average is a beer per

My average is a beer per night... I felt great waking up and going outside. A mile in, my legs turned to stone. Hopefully, it was just too much beer, and not something else.

Doesn't beer cause

Doesn't beer cause dehydration, just like soda?

Absolutely. Alcohol will dehydrate you more than soda will- I'll pick a naturally carbonated micro or "home brew" over a an empty calorie soda any day of the week.... cheers!

Light beers range from 3.2% -

Light beers range from 3.2% - 4% typically, "normal" beers around 5%, and tasty beers anywhere from 6%-7.5% alcohol.

Beers higher than that, like 12% and even more are tasty only to those that have aquired the taste for them.

Light beers pretty much provide enough water to make up for the dehydrating effects of the alcohol, regulars and above do not in most people.

Stick to the lights and your morning run should be fine. Enjoy the quality Micros and Crafts on evenings you have no early wake up call.

Youth is an advantage here, just like with sleep. Cheating every once in a while is allowed, but the older you are the less you will get away with.

Michelob Ultra is 4.2%, and only 95 calories. Anheiser Busch got me thinking about using it as my regular post race elixir ever since they gave me a free pint at the 8:00 am finish of my first ever race (Grand Rapids First Third River Run) .

Well, sort of free, kind of like included in the registration fee.

Bud Select 55 is only 55 calories in 12 ounces, and slightly over 3% alcohol.

You probably could get away with a 6-pack of those on race night!

Looking forward to July 4, Volkslaufe races in Frankenmuth MI.

Beirgrten opens early at the finish line, and the "medals" are authentic stone beer steins!

Hope my shin feels better by Monday, I'd LOVE to win one of these:

Awesome advise !

Abide: Kansas City, MO has Boulevard Brewing Company. Im not sure how big thier distribution is, but they get it around the Midwest. I was endulging in their wheat beer... tasty.

I think it was the 3rd beer

I think it was the 3rd beer that got to you. If it had been a big glass of H2O, you'd likely have been golden. If you're at all like me, you'd have been up 2 or 3 times during the night, but your run would have gone much better. One of my worst runs ever, with the exception of the recent one where I came back covered in blood, was after a night of heavy eating and a second bottle of wine. I won't do that again.

On the other hand, I wouldn't soon quit on beer. IPA is an important part of my new very restricted input eating style. (I hate the word "diet.") My father used to say "there's a sandwich in every bottle!"

Man, Board, you know way too

Man, Board, you know way too much about beer...and everything else too.
