"However, a study conducted by exercise scientists has found no evidence that toning shoes provide any significant benefit over traditional athletic shoes. In fact, knowledgeable medical experts advise that toning shoes actually pose major risks. Indeed, it is well recognized in the orthopedic community that anything that impacts your gait may cause harm to your bones, muscles and joints. Regrettably, the toning shoe manufacturers ignored this literature and failed to conduct adequate safety studies to demonstrate that wearing these shoes is safe."

Well, it's about damn time!

Well, it's about damn time! :)

it is well recognized in the orthopedic community that anything that impacts your gait may cause harm to your bones, muscles and joints

Then why don't they recognize how boat anchors do the same thing!

OMGosh!  You all should read

OMGosh! You all should read the testimonials on the site; testimonials meaning bad experiences in this case. The injuries these people are talking about. Insane. Very much like what people wearing traditional boat anchors go through.

A coworker stated to me that

A coworker stated to me that her mother was wearing a shape up shoe and because of the engineering encouraging forward only motion, lost her balance to the side, fell over and broke her hip. Guess that fits under the heading of "law of unintended consequences"...

I guess another thing that

I guess another thing that ought to come with instructions that just about everyone will ignore. Funny how they seem to be advertised that just strap em on and miracles will happen. Guess they left out the part where your posture has to be correct for it to work the intended areas. Taking an already flawed system and introducing a major gait change is a recipe for disaster. They really should have done the research based not on the ideal user, but the likely user, or gift recipient.

I got a laugh a while back

I got a laugh a while back seeing some old (as in 75+) people walking along the shoreline in these. Kinda defeats their intended (or claimed) purpose when you wear them on sand I'd think. But at least it probably cut down on their safety risks.

These were huge during my

These were huge during my last trip to Disney World. Everyone was either wearing these, or Crocs. Everyone wearing the Shape-ups was morbidly obese.

That is such a shame.  I

That is such a shame. I wonder how many of those people were aching and in pain when they got back to their hotels rooms that night. Geez!

Here's an article about

Here's an article about who/why this lawsuit came about: http://tinyurl.com/3aq2rch

It seems to me that all one

It seems to me that all one has to do is look at the shoes to know that they cant be good for you. I thought they were the dumbest thing id seen all year even back in the day when i believed we needed arch support and cushion and whatnot. It would seem that this lawsuit shouldn't go in favor of the plaintiffs.

Yes, but think about all the

Yes, but think about all the smokers who must have known that taking in all that smoke wasn't good for them, but they did it anyway, and they continued to do so after they were told it was bad for them, then ended up sueing and winning! Yea, go figure. We need a lawsuit against the makers of shoes like ASICS Kayanos and Saucony Grid Ignitions. These are truly deceptive shoes backed by deceptive marketing making us think we are getting something healthy when we are getting quite the opposite, sort of like a wolf in sheep's clothing or a trojan horse.

Yeah. They wouldn't have had a leg to stand on if the cigarette manufacturers hadn't kept secret all the things they were adding to help addict the smokers. But now they have revealed all, and now no one can say they didn't know. Now, if the shoe manufacturers have secret reports that their shoes were going to be responsible for injuries. *ominous music* Da Da Daaaaa! Still a toss up. *shrug*

I really doubt this. But I have been wrong once before, but later I found I was mistaken
