Lets Connect on Dailymile.com 50 Plus Barefoot Runners:

Do I have many barefoot running brothers and sisters who are more than 50 years old in our community? I am on the first full year of my 30 year barefoot running plan and would like to connect with folks who are in my age group so I can see how we are doing. One of our respondents suggested we meet on dailymile.com. I am there as Barefoot Marc.

I turn fifty in four months.

I turn fifty in four months. I'll be glad to race you in 2041. I just hope I can still run at that age.

I'm 67, I've been trying BF

I'm 67, I've been trying BF for about 6 months. Longest run 3.5 miles track workout. I do some roads 1-2 miles . Most weeks are about 30 miles shod and 7 miles BF. I am really hoping I can transition to longer road race distances BF.

30 years from now my goal is to have a pulse, and know my name.

Good luck barefootmarc.

I'll turn 58 next month.

My outdoor running is 100% skin to the ground true barefoot.

I just turned 52 in May.I

I just turned 52 in May.

I haven't run for about 4 years due to a knee injury - doctor told me to quit running or get a knee replacement - that was about 2007.

I started up from scratch about 2 months ago - first barefoot run in my life on March 31, 2011. Yesterday I did 6 miles barefoot on pavement and trails. Kinda slow, but at least I got the distance in. I'm confident the speed will come later.

Today - I'm tired, but the knee does not hurt! Barefooting is the best thing that's happened to me in recent memory. I love it!

I'm 58 and never been a runner. I started barefoot running on 5/21/2011 in large part from reading posts on this group.

I'm using dailymile.com to log my barefoot adventure. I would love to have other new 50+ barefoot runners as friends on dailymile. I think you can find me as "craig h a"

I am loving these stories, you guys!

Hi Guys,  I am 62 and

Hi Guys,

I am 62 and started running at 59. Been working up some BF miles. Depends on when and where I run.

Most I've done BF is 9 miles on an indoor asphalt track. Mostly I do about 5k BF.

The rest of the time I wear VFFs but I hope to get some of the Zem h2o's for when I can't be BF.

I'll be doing the 5k and 10k next week in the Empire State Senior games.

Peanut

Good luck on that again,

Good luck on that again, Peanut. Let us know how your races go.

I'm 62.  Started running in

I'm 62. Started running in November 1975. Figured I've run enough to circle the globe two times. Started incorporating barefoot running in the late 1970s when I heard Brooks Johnson (coach at Stanford) had his runners run on the golf course twice a week. I started doing speed work on a golf course as well. Never really hit the roads or trails barefooted and only ran barefooted in the warmer months. I'm up to 10-15 miles a week on roads/trails. Just when I think I can handle more, I get blood blisters and need to slow down. Patience was never a virtue.

I just celebrated my 57th

I just celebrated my 57th birthday. I've been barefoot running for a year. I've been a recreational runner since high school and ran my first marathon when I turned 50. Running is a core part of who I am and I hope to be running until the day I die.

52 years young and still

52 years young and still going. I have been MR/BFR since February of 2010. I have run all of my life with athletics in one way shape or form. First race and first marathon in 1992. First 50 miler in 2009 at 50. I have rarely missed a week without running over the last 4 years. I am a little over 800 miles for 2011. I am running in Feelmax Panka's or Trail Gloves depending on surfaces and routes. I was pretty sure I was going to stick with minimal this year once the weather warmed up but the bug hit me and I am going BFR a couple times a week right now. Nice to know we have quite a few masters representing on this forum. Keep up the good work!

OK, fine, I admit that I am

OK, fine, I admit that I am over 50! I have been trying to be consistent about running for exercise since college days, but I did not enjoy it very much until I lost the shoes. It has not been an easy transition for me, trying to overcome 50 years of footgear dependence, but I cannot imagine ever going back to running in shoes.

53 over here in the

53 over here in the Florida-Jacksonville chapter! Started running minimalist in Bikila's last year and am

working towards totally barefoot now.

I'm 50 and feel better now

I'm 50 and feel better now than I did in my 40's...my lost decade. Had a few health issues going on then, one of which was a Bad-A$$-Wicked case of plantar fasciitis that had me kneeling in the playground gravel to push our daughter on a swing, and kneeling on a chair to make a sandwich. That and a few other issues are gone now, so it's giddy up on getting back into shape!

Nice to meet you :)

Murray

Welcome, Murray!  How long

Welcome, Murray! How long did it take to get over the PF, and how do you supposed you developed PF in the first place? Glad you're doing well now. That does sound like the worse case of PF I've ever heard of.

So I run this smaller 2

So I run this smaller 2 mile race today and SHOULD have come in third, but check out the 58 year old first place guy's time:
