Barefoot running in the rain is essential to do.

Interesting...  I ran 14K on

Interesting... I ran 14K on wet, very abrasive concrete and pavement in North Carolina, about a month ago, and completely wore down the calluses on my metarasals and toes, much to my dismay and pain. Deep blisters, intense discomfort...

The distance was OK, but I gather from previous comments that my form was not up to par (pushing off, I guess?) So its good to read that running in the rain can be possible, because I've started telling people not to do that ;-)

I love running in the

I love running in the rain...I don't like running in monsoons....I like running ON mud...I don't like sliding up and down steep mountains in rivers of mud....but nothing like a run on concrete and asphalt in a spring shower to clean the soles.

I once hated running in the

I once hated running in the rain and getting my feet we (back when I ran 6 miles every morning in shods) but I just did my first BFR in the rain earlier this week and it didn't bother me one bit. I went thru the puddles and everything. Only thing I hate (and I'm hoping I eventually adapt) is the rather significant increase in sensitivity when running in wet, cold or wet/chilled conditions.

I think once you've run

I think once you've run barefoot more, it will become easier, for both wet and dry ground.

I did an easy 3 miles

I did an easy 3 miles yesterday right after a downpour on a paved trail. I still ended up with sore points by the balls of my feet. Not worn through as I've exerienced before. I did pay super close attention to my form. Sigh. I'm not there yet. I take inspiration from you, my BF colleagues, who revel in the wet conditions. As I ran I thought "Sh*t! If somebody can pop off an 18 mile run on wet road, I damn well can run a measley 3! Lift! Lift! Lift!..."

The best part of the run was where the trail was completely covered with Black locust blossoms. Squish. Squish!

The other was where the deer stood in the middle of the trail and gave me the eye until I was 30 feet away, when it decided to let me pass.

I've only been able to do

I've only been able to do short runs in the rain so far but I love it!! I can imagine longer distances will be a bit different.

Thank Tlaloc for rain.  I

Thank Tlaloc for rain. I used to not like running in the rain, but it's one of those things that grew on me over the years. One extra bonus is that it's much easier to clean my feet afterwards.

I did 8 miles last night, 2

I did 8 miles last night, 2 of them on gravel trail, and loved every inch of it. I have a little bruise, from a stone hidden in a puddle, but no hot spots. I hope it'll be raining when I run home through mid-town tonight!

How long (measured in miles or time whatever works) would you say it took you to be able to do that with no hotspots and odd sensations? I can two miles, just two miles, on gravel and man and it was test of wills the last quarter mile. Had some hot spots for about 36 hours or so. I'm patiently anticipating the day I can do so and feel not a damn thing:)

I started running shoeless 13 months ago (~1200 shoeless miles) and I've done a few runs after rain on very damp tarmac but last night was my first run in torrential rain ever (it was, to use the Yorkshire vernacular, 'siling down'). The gravel was actually easier than when it is dry - it felt almost silky.

I have to thank Adam for inspiring me to get out and try running in the rain.

Did a 24k run in the rain

Did a 24k run in the rain today. It was my last long run before my may 29 marathon. Slow, lots of puddle work, ;) used some techniques I found in Kenbobs book, mainly, if something is wrong bend your knees more, gently lift the toes and land on the ball first.
I think the resent intensive gravel work helped.

Last three long runs no blisters, I am forgetting about speed for the marathon.

Good luck, PB!  Let us know

Good luck, PB! Let us know how it goes. At least if it rains on marathon day, you'll be prepared!

Had my first barefoot run in

Had my first barefoot run in the rain today and it was awesome! I'm still in the process of building up slowly so only did two miles totally barefoot, but really wanted to do more. The many different sensations and textures were wonderful. About a mile into the run, I had to go pee really bad, and the feeling didn't go away, it only intensified. The feeling of warm rain water on my feet, the pitter patter of drops hitting the ground, and the splashing of water as cars drove by... the thought crossed my mind to just, well, you know... relieve myself

, but I decided not to. Anyone else have an intensified feeling to void while out running barefoot in the rain?

I'll pass.

I'll pass.

Atlanta has been dry lately.

Atlanta has been dry lately. The weather was awesome today when I ran, but I'm feeling a bit jealous of all you folks who are getting to run in warm spring rains. Well, maybe next week I will get the opportunity. BTW, my least favorite barefoot running weather is 33 degrees and raining. We get lots of that during winter in N GA. :(

no running today (drove 4

no running today (drove 4 hours barefoot instead), but I will try to get out tomorrow. I live on a gravel road and its definitely more pleasurable underfoot (walking or running bare) when damp/wet as long as its warm enough.. 35 degrees and rain is NOT fun!

I haven't noticed any issues different with running in wet than dry, so I guess my issues are more with just building up my soles and different surfaces and that my prefered neighborhood to run in has the chipseal.. so I'm back to running along major roads so I can run on the concrete instead.

Holy cow I loved my run

Holy cow I loved my run today! It was only 2 miles but it was pouring rain, thunderstorms, and flooding. Greatest combo ever! I am officially hooked on it.

Oh and when I was running by, this guy looked at me with the weirdest look ever, it was like he was watching bigfoot ride a unicorn while talking to santa. It cracked me up
