Barefoot Running Documentary

Of course they have to always

Of course they have to always include the opposing arguments from those who know absolutely nothing about the human foot. Let's all rely on what the shoe store sales clerk says when it comes to our foot and running health. That's right. He knows best. Trust in them! And the podiatrist! Another one who thinks that humans are defective and differing human biomechanics are a danger to running, therefore need cushion and support.

Sorry Colin. Thanks for representing!

I think a comment I remember

I think a comment I remember reading (or hearing) that said "If birds and fish had the same problems with their method of locomotion that we apparently do then the ground would be littered with birds unable to fly and the water full of fish unable to swim"

I always find it odd that we are, as a species, singled out for being 'different' and needing support to get around. It sounds more like big business salesmanship to me.

Thanks everybody. Just trying

Thanks everybody. Just trying to do what I can to spread the word about barefoot running. When I first started running barefoot, I tried to stay on my toes just to be sure that my heels did not recieve any impact. I played it safe until i began getting a feel for it and then my heels could comfortably lower towards the ground. For a first time, I feel that it is ok to mess around with the height of the heels (although hers remained a good 4 inches off the ground the whole time, which is too much). This was probably the mainreason that her ankles hurt as well.

I feel that both the

I feel that both the salesclerk and the podiatrist were very understanding and encouraging of barefoot experimentation. Since the store clerk admitted that wearing shoes has worn down the strength in our arches and the podiatrist says that it is best to start out slow. Usually these types of people are very stubborn and industrialized in their way of thinking.

I LOVE that concept. So true. And I've never seen a bird with wing "shoes" or a fish with fin "shoes".

And most people either believe in evolution or some form of divine creation, or a combination of the two.

So we evolved to be broken and flawed? Or was God just plain tired and lazy and did a half-assed job creating humans?

Great job Collin. The shoe

Great job Collin. The shoe salesmen seems to have some practical knowledge. Good to see. The podiatrist well he is doing his best to look like a knowledgeable authority.

I think the podiatrist was

I think the podiatrist was feeling some pressure - he had a distinct aversion to looking toward the camera. Considering it all, hewas pretty reasonable.

Yes, good job, Colin. Did you have to twist the journalism students' arms to pick BFR as a topic, or did they tackle you?

In fairness, I would agree

In fairness, I would agree that both the shop assistant and the podiatrist both put the pros and cons forward of barefoot and running shod.

What I would like to see is a podiatrist arguing the pros and cons of minimalist shoes against highly cushioned shoes. By taking away the main argument about protection for the soles, the discussion would then have to shift to the biomechanics of running and whether heel striking is the natural way or not.

Maybe then we could start to reach some kind of consensus.

The journalism department

The journalism department came up with the idea on their own and I very eagerly volunteered my time for an interview and barefoot running coaching session. It was a lot of fun!

Gread vid!  If I'd never

Gread vid! If I'd never tried BFR, that clip would have made me want to investigate further. Particularly due to the success you had eliminating your running pains...

I have a phillosphy that you should never give an oppinion, either for or against, if you've never participated. It becomes pretty obvious who has actually tried BFR, once they open their mouths. At least the Doc and the Clerk stayed pretty neutral...

The girls form does need work...I been there! In fact...it was just last month! LOL! Foot, ankle and calf pain/soreness, finally gone...time to shed the VFFs a bit, I think.
