Goofiest race ever

Hi everyone,

I haven't forgotten the forum, just not enough hours in the day :) I do pop in from time to time and read a little and it is great to see so many new BFRs and so many familliar faces.

I'm promoting barefoot running here in South Korea and ran my first BF race for the year yesterday. There were lots of guys in Vibrams too!

Anyway, if anyone is interested the "race" report is here: http://rustedrunner.blogspot.com/2011/03/womens-history-month-5k-osan-air-base.html

It was a totally messed up race but tons of fun. I'm also planning to run barefoot next weekend in a Half Marathon in Seoul. I can only imagine the reaction I will get! Koreans think I'm totally nuts :)

Keep up the miles!

That's great to hear that

That's great to hear that your foot has healed and you are getting your miles back up, Wendy.

Why do you suppose you got TOFP? Could it have been avoided; if so, how?

I'd say 6 weeks in a cast and 4 months of not running probably weakend it, just like anything else that atrophies while in a cast. My right calf still doesn't match the left one :p

When I would start to get TOFP, I stopped the run and backed off my mileage a little. Eventually the foot was strong enough and it has stopped being a problem. I had some twinges of PF too, same reason, foot just needed to build a little more strength. I didn't push when I had the TOFP or facia pain so they never got past a 1 on the pain scale, which I think means I treated it well. No real way to avoid it, it is a matter of doing as much as you can, resting, and then doing it again so it builds strength as fast as possible.

Excellent advice.  Glad

Excellent advice. Glad you're doing well. I remember that was quite a scare.
