So I am looking into buying a pair of huraches and I don't know which website to get them from. The Luna Equs looks really nice and is only 2mm thick... The invisable shoe is very popular... so many choices. Can anyone help that has Huraches?

Thanks -Dave

Hi Dont have much

Hi

Dont have much experience but I did get some Invisible shoes, the DIY kit.

And I must say they are very comfortable and at the price you cant beat them

At the price I think they are a worthwhile option to try!!!

I have all three options. If

I have all three options. If you have the money the Equus are nice. With 2mm rubber and 2mm leather top they are 4mm thick and quite stiff. They offer no ground feel but fit good. The laces you have to learn to adjust and for me can feel quite tight at times.

I made some lunas that are 6mm and very cushy. They are a nice option when i tire of the stiff and tight equus. I like them for walking around and running. With anything but the equus laces you have to learn how to tie them. That is an art form itself. For that Invisible shoes have superior laces.

The cord is comfortable and lasts longer than the leather and hemp laces that lunas offer. At 4mm of rubber they offer the best ground feel. I have read BFTed countering that the lunas with wear go down to 3mm and offer great ground feel. The biggest problem with Invisible shoes is the thinness. You feel ALL the gravel or whatever you walk over. They also don't do as well as lunas in the rain which i have a lot of where i live.

I hope that thelps with your decision. I don't really think you'll do wrong by any of them. It's just learning to tye them that's hardest.

Thanks for the advice. I want

Thanks for the advice. I want great ground feel and something similar to my KSO's. The Equas seems like a bad option then if they are that stiff. Besides the laces how does the orignal lunas and invisable shoe compare?

I like the laces on the

I like the laces on the Invisible Shoe huaraches I made. I tried deer skin laces, but they stretched out which made me have to tighten them down which then cut into my feet. I don't like them. Maybe if I had a wider deer skin lace, that would be better. I just ordered two more pairs of laces from IS in black. With IS, their huaraches are very affordable. If I were to ever buy Ted's I would want to make sure I was comfortable wearing huaraches first before putting down that kind of money.

It is going to be hard for

It is going to be hard for folks to answer your question without more info.

Are you the creative/hands on type ? Are you comfortable with a build your own, or do it yourself kit ? Or would you rather buy something ready to go at delivery ? Do you plan to use thong style lacing, or a alternate style lacing ? What surfaces do you plan to use them on ? Roads ? Trails ? If trails will it be dirt top surface, or more gravel rock like ? Do you want a lot of ground feel ? Or do you want less ground feel with more protection ? Are you OK with a bare foot bed, or would you prefer leather or some other material under your foot sole skin ?

Many options exist. These are questions to think about to dictate what you choose......... By the way no product on these web sites will have a 2mm thickness. Your looking at roughly a minimum of 4mm which ever route you go.

Invisible Shoe huaraches are

Invisible Shoe huaraches are the best. DIY is pretty easy. TJ is right, the laces are excellent. Thong lacing keeps them in place without thinking about it. I haven't found any surface yet that they didn't work on. The only VERY minor issue I have with them is if you have sweaty feet, the huaraches can start to feel a little sticky.

I run BF exclusively but thread them through the belt of my runners waist pack just in case. You can make your own leather version if you want to, I wear mine everywhere.

Good questions to ask, HE.

Good questions to ask, HE. Definitely something to think about, especially considering the price difference between the Invisible Shoe and Lunas.

HE- Well I never knew it was

HE- Well I never knew it was this complicated! But looking back on it now I think I am going to go with the IS. There seem to be many more reliable reviews about them and they're cheaper!

Thank you all for the help!

I have the invisible shoes. I

I have the invisible shoes. I really like them as long as its relatively dry. My only complaint is that in the rain they top gets pretty slick and in the mud they get really heavy and slippery. But other than that Migangelo is right the hardest part is figuring out how you want them tied. I didn't like the thong way of doing it so I played around with across the toe versions. I've never tried the other ones except for an illfated attempt at making my own with leather. It was a fail. You can also find replacement laces at REI type stores and buy a boatload of them all at once. The way I have it tied makes the laces wear out pretty fast so when I was doing the majority of my running in them I bought a bunch to replace it with.

I have made several pairs of

I have made several pairs of huaraches in various configurations on my own using Vibram 4mm Cherry and poly cord, however the huraches I now prefer are the Unshoes ( http://unshoes.wordpress.com/ ). I first ordered a 6mm pair last summer and found them a bit stiff. I soon ordered a second 4mm pair and they are by far my favorites. You can send a foot tracing, on the 4mm pair I asked for the heel straps to be closer to eliminate some play the 6mm had on trails. It is a nice design and once you get the strap adjusted they are quick to slip on or off. They are my favorite casual warm weather shoes as well.

The Invisible Shoes are

The Invisible Shoes are great, and offer the most barefoot feel, and are the least expensive, and have the most comfortable laces no matter what terrain you're going on. I love mine.

Definitely go with the

Definitely go with the Invisible Shoes-- you can't beat the price (most inexpensive barefoot plus/minimalist product out there, offers true barefoot feel and benefits, and i love the way the laces feel compared to anything else, especially if you want to both hike run and walk)...

I just placed my order from

I just placed my order from invisable shoe and they're in the mail! I had to get the large sheet because my feet are ~10.75 inches so I wasn't going to risk the normal being to small. I had to get the orange laces so they stick out a little bit. I'm excited to start running in them and hopefully I can figure out how to tie them pretty quickly.

WAny methods easier then others? Any really helpfull videos or instructions?

Thanks

I agree that Invisible Shoe

I agree that Invisible Shoe huaraches are the very best, and I just wanted to say, Sar, that I love your quote at the bottom, my dog is barefoot too-- that's awesome... LOVE IT.

I have both the Invisible

I have both the Invisible Shoes and the Original Luna huaraches. I had some issues with the strap being between my toes, but an alternative tying method (by Sonjabean -- video on the IS website) did the trick and I've had great runs in them. I just last week received a pair of Original Lunas and I'm struggling to get them right. I think they're a fine product, but because of my particular feet, the wide strap is causing me some issues. Maybe they need more time to break in. I bought them because I wanted a better looking, slightly more formal looking huarache sandal to wear for all around use -- walking, at work, etc. From a fashion standpoint, the invisible shoes aren't much to look at (but of course they aren't made for that, so that's not a fault of the IS shoes). I'm loving the barefoot/minimalist approach and wanted to extend that feel beyond my running. I'm finding the walking experience much different and I feel like I need a heel for that. Does anyone else feel that way about the difference between walking and running barefoot? Maybe it's just me. Overall, the invisible shoe is a nice, simple product that makes for a fine running huarache.

TD, have you thought about

TD, have you thought about using IS laces with your Lunas? Also, does Ted offer to punch holes for the alternative tying method? I have the IS, and I punched the holes for Sonjabeans alternate tying method myself, since I can't handle the between the toes method either.

I hope I don't have that

I hope I don't have that problem with the laces inbetween my toes. I never had a problem with flip flops so hopefully they won't bother me! I cannot wait until they arrive

SaraLord, I also run

SaraLord,

I also run barefoot exclusively but decided to buy a pair of the Luna Equus sandals for the days when my feet are just a little too tender to go barefoot. I basically wanted the most minimal sandal offering the best ground feel. When the Luna Equus arrived I was very impressed by their craftsmanship, however I was unhappy with stiffness of the cordovan leather.

I asked them if they could send me a pair made with 2mm rubber and 2 mm suede top as I figured this would give me the best of both worlds. But unfortunately they said that it could not be made since the sandal would be too floppy when running. Do you think that the 4mm Invisible Shoes will give me the closet ground feel to barefoot running? I own a few pairs of Vibrams, which I loved wearing for about 2 years but I no longer have the desire to use them for running anymore.

So now I may just end up keeping the Luna's for casual wear and buying a pair of Invisible Shoes for running. I have a feeling that at the end of the day I'll probably just end up running barefoot full-time. Once you've had a taste of barefoot running it's really difficult to enjoy running in shoes again. Sometimes I feel blessed for discovering the joys of barefoot running, while other times I feel it is a curse. :) My feet even feel too constricted wearing socks around the house.
