From the article: The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons has compiled a list of barefoot bombshells and suggests everyone toe the line to improve barefoot safety. They point out that going barefoot has many potential dangers including catching skin viruses like plantar fasciitis—a nasty, parasite-like hookworm—plantar's warts or pseudomonas: bacteria that live on plants and can invade unprotected, bare feet.

If you didn't LOL, check your pulse.

What the ACFAS actually wrote: http://www.acfas.org/Content.aspx?id=1430&terms=barefoot

I've had warts on my hands

I've had warts on my hands before. So now I always wear gloves. The more structure and cushioning the better! I even have inserts for my gloves to hold my fingers in an optimal position. It makes eating kind of hard (and driving, and cooking, and cleaning, and typing, and childcare) but the Academy of Hand and Finger Surgeons assures me that it's the best thing for me to do, and they have been happy to offer to treat the fungal growths and weakness I've developed in my always-gloved hands.

P.S. While I was laughing at

P.S. While I was laughing at their anti-barefoot reasoning, I just realized the actual point of your post. And HA!

Yeah, let me restate it,

Yeah, let me restate it, because it is fun just to say.

Plantar fasciitis is caused by a skin virus, which somehow is also a nasty hookworm (that also just missed the cut on being parasitic).

!!!!

So THAT is how I got PF for

So THAT is how I got PF for 18 months followed by ~6 weeks clunker running and then another 2 years of PF in the other foot. It must have been in those few seconds barefoot while changing from work shoes to cushiony running shoes. I will never take them off ever again in case I catch the hookworm VIRUS of PF.

You guys crack me up!  What

You guys crack me up! What is wrong with these people?

Hahahaha!

Hahahaha!

What a botch job of pirating

What a botch job of pirating content! Wow!

I am glad I read the original article, though. I had no idea of the risk the soles of my feet were exposed to from sunburn. From now on I'm going to dunk my feet in a bucket of sunscreen before I go out to run. Maybe I'll throw a bit of fungicide and incesticide in with it, just in case.

Incesticide!  Hahahaha!  Not

Incesticide! Hahahaha! Not that that's funny or anything. I think he meant to say insecticide . ;-)
