Evidence - BFR fixes flat feet

Well... at least in my case.

I have always had flat feet and when I started BFR in June I read from other BF runners about the possibility to strengthen the arch and get rid of the flatfootness.

So I have been curiously watching how the feet change during my first four months of BFR and it just miraculously worked out

Here is the evidence:

Wow!! That's insane, what an improvement!

What did you put your print on? Good for you for documenting this :)

I have flat feet also, but

I have flat feet also, but after 1.5 years running barefoot I don't have near that kind of change. I have developed smal arches but yours changed dramatically. How are you taking that print?

That's amazing!!

That's amazing!!

 I'm having a hard time

I'm having a hard time understanding how your feet can change that much in 4 months. What is your mileage? Are the pics taken exactly the same way?

Taking the prints is easy I

Taking the prints is easy

I just paint my sole black (black tempera paint) using brush and step on a big white sheet of paper (4-5 times). Then I pick the best footprint, scan it (flatbed scanner) and invert the colors in computer (Photoshop).

I am really surprised too, I was not expecting the change to be so quick, I have run total 380 km since I started BFR in June, my weekle average is around 35 km these days.

Yes, exactly the same way, I have been trying to do my best when stepping on the paper but it is not perfect.

[edit]

I forgot to mention I have been barefoot full time (since June 2010). The only places I still put my flip flops on are grocery stores and restaurants ( not enough courage yet  )

Maybe Docs should

Maybe Docs should be consulted on this one. I know my feet are now doing things a year ago I would have thought impossible.

I have high arches so I did not see big changes other than spreading of the toes. Time to signal the foot freindly Dr?.

Smoke signals or the barefoot search light beam should catch his attention.

I'll send this link to him,

I'll send this link to him, PB, to see if he will comment. I too noticed a good change in my flat feet; after several months of running barefoot, I developed a nice arch. Sady, since I haven't run many miles since the end of March, the muscles in my arch have weekend. I do feel like I still have an arch, but when I point my big toes, they don't look as impressive as they did by the end of March.

Done.

Done.

You are very welcome!

Doc is pending info from Para and will respond possibly tomorrow.

wow, that's an amazing

wow, that's an amazing change! I have always had really high arches, and very narrow feet (I had to wear two pair of hiking socks to wear Merrell hikers, if that gives you any idea. I now can wear just about any shoes with regular socks on, so my feet are no longer in the AAAA category. Of course, it doesn't matter much because the only shoes I really wear regularly are sandals and VFFs!

 Good for you for documenting

Good for you for documenting it! I really wish I had done something like that. I know my feet have changed pretty dramatically, but I don't have any pics/prints. very cool.

I think it's

I think it's important to point out this quote from Paraganek,

"I forgot to mention I have been barefoot full time (since June 2010). The only places I still put my flip flops on are grocery stores and restaurants..."

So barefoot running would be a factor, but it's not the only factor in the extreme change in arch. Barefoot walking could be the major factor in the change. He has started running barefoot AND started going barefoot full time, to know how much running has to do with the change, wouldn't you need to know the approx. milage he has walked in this time?

I'm sure Doc meant to say

I'm sure Doc meant to say barefoot living, Ram. In fact, he and I have communicated about his desire to also represent the barefoot lifestyle, which includes walking most of all.

I have been scouring the web

I have been scouring the web for photo evidence of foot arch changes but there is very little so Paraganek's is a gem. May be a good thesis for a med student since the changes are fairly rapid.

Thanks Doc
