So my cousin's wedding is coming up next month and out of pretty much nowhere, when she and I were talking about it on the phone she asked if I was going to be barefoot since she wants me to do whatever I feel comfortable. Part of me thinks it would be cool, but the other part of me doesn't want to embarrass myself and the other people at the wedding. What do you think I should do?

I'm always barefoot, so I'd be barefoot, even if she hadn't said anything. I don't know how much you're usually barefoot. I can't imagine you being barefoot being embarrassing, unless the tops of your feet or your toenails are dirty. If you're worried about someone asking why you're barefoot, think about your answer in advance.

Also the venue could have rules, or claim to have rules. If you're going barefoot and they claim health code or something, have the health department letter with you for your state. If they claim to have a rule for the venue, ask to talk to the manager, and if they really do, have shoes in your car or backpack (somewhere out of sight) just in case. You can't leave and go somewhere else for this one. And don't call and ask in advance.
They're unlikely to have a rule with how many women take off their shoes at weddings.

Good advice from Adi.

When I read your thread's title, I thought, "Tyler is getting married barefoot!" Yay!

Thanks Adi. I don't know if the vendor has a shoes policy or not but Jenny said she'll find out.

In the SBL, we always say to not ask in advance because it's much more likely to get a no if you ask in advance. I'd go with the knowledge that women usually take their shoes off at wedding receptions, and so you will be fine too, as long as you're otherwise clean and respectable looking.

Do nothing that might draw attention away from the bride and groom. That might mean bare feet; it might mean shoes. Either way, your feet should not be the object of anyone's attention at their celebration.
